Alright now, let's talk about food stamps. Because apparently not only are folks struggling to afford groceries, now they gotta pass a lifestyle audit just to eat. I mean inflation is out here doing the absolute most eggs acting like they got a college degree, bread thinking it's luxury, and somehow the solution is stricter rules for the people already having a hard time. So now the conversation is shifting from how do we help people eat to what are you allowed to eat? How often? And did you clock in first? Oh yeah, we're going there today. Let's get into it. Food stamps, snap were designed to help people survive, not thrive, not splurge, not live lavishly, survive. But now there's this push for stricter work requirements. Basically, if you're not working enough hours or jumping through the right hoops, your benefits can get cut off. And listen, on the surface, people say, well, that's fair. People should work. Cool. But let's be real for a second. Jobs aren't always stable. Hours get cut. Child care is expensive. Transportation ain't always reliable. Life be lifing. Then here comes the food police part. Now folks want to say you shouldn't be able to buy certain things. No sugary drinks, no snacks, no junk food. And I get it health matters. But let's not act like somebody grabbing a bag of chips is the reason the health care system is struggling. Meanwhile, somebody paying cash can walk into the store and buy ten packs of sodas, five boxes of donuts, and nobody blinks an eye. But let you swipe that snap card. Now suddenly it's oh no, not the cookies. Like are we helping people or are we monitoring them? Because it starts to feel less like support and more like supervision. Like we'll help you, but only if you struggle the right way. And let's not ignore the bigger picture. Food prices are high, rent is high, wages are questionable. So instead of fixing the system, it feels like we're tightening the leash on the people at the bottom of it. At the end of the day, this ain't just about groceries, it's about dignity. Because needing help shouldn't mean losing your freedom to make basic choices like what you eat. And if we're being honest, the real question isn't whether people on food stamps are making the right choices. The real question is why are so many people working, struggling, and still needing help just to eat in the first place? So I'll leave you with this. Are these new rules about helping people do better? Or are they just making struggle come with extra rules and a side of judgment?
