Welcome back to Ask Velvet Podcast. I hope everybody's having a peaceful and blessed Mother's Day. Today's episode is a little different. It's not about celebrity drama, social media chaos, or relationships. Today is about peace. Today is about observation. Today is about sitting still long enough to appreciate life happening around you. This morning I woke up, said my prayers, thank the Lord for waking me up and continuing to provide for me. Then I sent out my Mother's Day text and decided to do something I enjoy doing the most. Sitting out on my front porch, people watching, traffic watching, and just taking in the neighborhood. And if you know, you know, when you live in a black neighborhood, there is always something going on. There's always some kind of drama unfolding somewhere. Somebody arguing, somebody laughing loud, music playing, people moving around. It's never boring, and today definitely gave me a front row seat to the neighborhood activities. So today we're talking about peace, porch sitting, neighborhood energy, and finding comfort in ordinary moments. Now one thing about a front porch is that it will teach you how to slow down. We live in a world where everybody is rushing, everybody is stressed, everybody is chasing something, scrolling through something, arguing online about something. But sitting on the front porch today reminded me that sometimes the best moments come from doing absolutely nothing. The weather was beautiful earlier, the sun was shining, people were outside, cars rolling by, folks walking up and down the street, and of course the wall huggers were outside doing what they do best. Standing around watching everything and everybody. And honestly, it made me laugh because every neighborhood has its regular cast of characters. But what really stood out to me today was the peace I felt. I wasn't worried, I wasn't stressed, I wasn't overwhelmed. I was just present in the moment, watching life happen around me while I sat there quietly enjoying the air, the sounds and the energy of the day. And even now when with the sun disappearing behind the clouds and the sky looking like rain could come at any moment. It still feels calm outside. Sometimes cloudy days can still feel peaceful. I think people underestimate how healing it can be to disconnect from noise and reconnect with your surroundings. No fancy plans, no expensive trips. Just you, your thoughts, your porch, and the world moving around you. Sometimes peace really is that simple. And that's what today reminded me of that every day does not have to be loud to be meaningful. Sometimes a good day is simply waking up, thanking God, showing love to the people you care about, sitting outside and appreciating the moment you're in. So wherever you are today, I hope you found at least one peaceful moment for yourself, even if it was only for a few minutes. Thank y'all for listening, thank y'all for rocking with me, and as always, stay safe, stay grounded, protect your peace, and I'll catch y'all in the next episode.
