Hi, calling family. This is Pastor Michael, and welcome to our church podcast. I'm so grateful for you tuning in today, and I believe today's message is gonna strengthen your faith in Jesus. The subject today is thank you God. Can you say that with me? Thank you, God. Come on, say it one more time with me. Thank you, God. I'm gonna spend a moment in the scriptures talking about the importance of Thanksgiving. Say Thanksgiving. Say it louder, Thanksgiving. In America, we have a holiday. I think Abraham Lincoln instituted, but I uh we have a holiday, but for the Christian, for the people of God, for the church, we are called to have a theology of Thanksgiving. I know the word theology sounds like a big word, but in other words, what it means is that we need to learn to make thanksgiving a lifestyle and not just celebrate it on one day of the entire year. By the way, if you're waiting to show God thanks one day of the whole year, you're gonna live a very unhappy life. Come on, somebody. You're gonna have a very unhappy year. So this morning I want to teach us to be thankful to God. Amen. Because the way we show thanksgiving to God is not just with our lips, but with our lives. Someone say, Amen. With our lives. All right. I heard a story about a woman who approached a man who had a sour expression on his face. She encouraged that grumpy looking man to be thankful. He replied, Thankful for what? I don't even have enough money to pay my bills. The woman thought for a moment and said, Well, be thankful you're not one of your creditors. There's always something to be thankful for in your life. Come on, somebody. There's always something to be thankful for in your life. Now I'm going ahead in my notes just a little bit. Horry, sorry, so they're gonna be upset with me after. You could lower me just a little bit more. I want to teach you, because I think that for a lot of us right now, we need a lot of joy in our life. We need a lot, how many hope in your life? How many watch this? How many want peace in your life? Come on, somebody. I want peace, I want joy. All right. How about this? Contentment in our life. Well, those things don't come to us in our life, in our souls, when we live ungrateful. Amen. And I suspect and I believe that all of us, you know what God told me one time. I was in prayer. God told me one time, Michael, you are blessed. Michael, you are so blessed. Michael, I live, I've littered your life with thousands of blessings. But you know what, Michael? You're just too busy for your blessings. You just, you're just you, you, you, you you you work a lot, you serve a lot, you're doing a lot of things. Maybe they pray a little bit more, Michael, to recognize the blessings that you have from the small ones to the big ones. And I don't know about you, but I do believe that you are blessed. Come on, somebody, you did get out of your bed. You do have breath in your lungs. Come on, somebody. Your marriage may not be the best, but that that woman's still there. Come on, somebody say, Amen for that. How many of you you're laughing? Don't look at your neighbor. How many of you can testify? Just raise your hand and say, if it wasn't for God and my wife, we would be divorced. Come on, somebody. I'm gonna raise both my hands because I'm the pastor, alright? If it wasn't for God and my wife and my family praying, I may not have been married, all right? There's a lot of things to be grateful for. My first point is this Do you know that great gratitude is good for you? Gratitude is good for you. Can you say that with me? Gratitude is good for you. Living a thankful life is good for your body. It's good for your health. You know, honestly, even Harvard and scientists say that if you continue to live an unhappy life, you might go to heaven, you might die soon. All right? Look what the Bible says in 1 Thessalonians chapter 5, verse 18. Coming from a man who faced a lot of persecutions, a lot of issues and problems for preaching the gospel. But look what he says, the Apostle Paul. He says, Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. Well, God, what is your will? What is your plan for my life? Well, God, what do you have for my life? I can tell you right now. Part of God's plan for your life is to be thankful. To be thankful. One theologian says maybe God wants us to be thankful because being thankful is good for you. According to Harvard Health, having an attitude of gratitude helps you sleep at night better or sleep better at night. It helps your cardiovascular system, it helps you socially and emotionally. All right. And I love that the Bible says this be thankful in every circumstance, be thankful in every season of your life. But let's be honest for a moment. Because I'm human and you're human. Let's be honest. For some of us, we're waiting for God to answer the prayer, then we're gonna be thankful. For some of us, we're waiting for the husband we've been praying for, then we're gonna thank God. For some of us, when God gives us the family, then we're gonna be thankful. When we get the job and the promotion, then we're gonna be thankful. But that's not what the Bible says. The Bible says to do the faithful thing and the hard thing. The Bible says to be thankful right now in the middle of your storm and even in the middle of your problem. There are too many shallow Christians, so to speak, who are not deeply rooted, who are going through a storm, who are not thankful in a storm. And watch this, they're waiting for a blessing in their life to be happy, but the Bible says, be happy and rejoice right now. Can I just share with you for some something for a moment that will make you rejoice? Your problems and your trials have expiration joy, uh expiration dates. Come on, somebody. Your problems will not last you forever, but the goodness of God will last forever. Someone say amen to that. Amen. Your problems won't last forever, your trials will expire. But the goodness and the faithfulness of the Lord Jesus Christ will always be there and remain for all of eternity. I don't know about you, but that makes me want to shout and holler and say, Thank you, Lord God, for your goodness and your faithfulness, even in the middle of a storm. Someone say, Amen. And sometimes you got to pray and praise Him and thank Him, especially when you're in a storm. Especially when you're in a storm. You know, God is sovereign, He's providential. We may not know and understand. You may not even understand, even if God told you why you go through what you go through. But you know, the faithful, what they do is they thank God and praise God, even in the middle of a storm. We have people right now dealing with cancer in our church. We have people right now who've lost a home in the fires. We have people who have problems in their family, maybe even in the marriage. But I'm so proud of you for saying thank you, Jesus, in the middle of your storm. Why? Because you're gonna you know that God is not gonna let you down. Someone say amen. You know God is not gonna let you down or give up on you. And by the way, can I just say it like this? If you're only seeing the bad, you're not seeing the full picture. If you're only seeing the bad, you're not seeing the complete picture. You know, how do we see the how do we know and see that we are blessed in our lives? I'll teach more on this a little later in my notes, but one of the ways that helps us to be thankful, especially in in troubles and tribulations, is to pray. Fold your hands and bend your knees, or just pray. And in the prayer, in the time of your prayers, watch this. Just to sit in the silence. Just to sit in the silence and watch this. Let God talk to you, and he will remind you of what he's done for you in your life. You know what? What's one beautiful way to think just to you talking about thanking God? Say remember. Say remember. Do you remember when God healed you of your disease? Do you remember when God blessed you with that new home that you prayed for for years? Do you know? Do you remember how God restored you and your family and your sisters and your brothers? Do you remember the miracles that God has provided? I think part of being thankful is remembering all of those things, those great things and small things that God blesses us with, to be honest with you. And you know what? I believe with all my soul and all my heart. If you can steam up a mirror and you can, you're still on this planet, thank you, Lord. You still have a purpose in this life, you are here for a reason. Come on, somebody. All right, God is sovereign. So gratitude is good for you. Don't wait to rejoice, regardless of what you're facing. Uh uh gratitude, be grateful in the middle of a storm. It'll change your outlook. And can I just share this with you? My wife is way more optimistic than I am. I'm pessimistic, all right. I've had a rough life, I've gone through a lot of things in my life, and and honestly, uh to can I share it this way? Uh, being unhappy and ungrateful can make you look really ugly. And by the way, brother, if you're not that good looking, all right, but you got a great personality and you're thankful, it makes you a lot better looking. Come on, someone say amen. All right? All right, so you got that working for you, all right? If you love the Lord and you're grateful and you have a positive attitude and you and you know that Jesus is good and you're living without outlook, that's gonna make you a whole lot better looking. Someone say, Amen. Alright? Plus, if you're gonna frown all the time, it's gonna make your face all wrinkly and messed up. Come on, somebody. Alright. Can I just share this over the last decade of ministry? Um, I think I share this through that. I'm just so proud of so many people in this church who I know a woman in our in our church who had cancer three times. Her name was Mercy. Her name is Mercy. And you would never know she was dealing with an issue or a disease because every time she'd come to church, she was so happy and filled with joy that God has given her one last what one more day to live, so to speak. One day at a time, she would be she would radiate with joy, and I was always amazed by her strength. It ministered to me deeply. And now she, and by the way, she's cancer-free. She survived all three of those cancers, alright? And she's cancer free. Amazing, amazing woman. I remember a time in 2020, we all remember that. It was chaos, honestly, in the world and in the ministry. And uh, I remember a time where I was living with ingratitude, and I was the pastor. Our church had been growing like crazy. The building was packed, we were at a different space, not this one. We had been growing. We uh uh, you know, it was it was a great time, and all of a sudden uh 2020 happened and it was chaos. We didn't have a place to meet. A friend of ours opened up their church and said, Hey, why don't you preach here at our church? And that was a whole adjustment because I preached to a room filled with nobody, no one was in the room. I preached in front of a camera, and I had to learn to do that because I never talked in front of a camera before. I was hurt, I was devastated, I was disappointed, and there was all this political stuff going on in the world and society, and the church was divided over it, and I just like, God, what's going on? God, I'm unhappy, I'm upset, I'm frustrated, and it wore on me. And you know what? Now I am so grateful, even if there is honesty, even if there's one or five of you or whatever, just one of you in the room, I am so thankful that you are here. Because I remember preaching to absolutely nobody. Come on, y'all. That is crazy, right? And so I never take for granted when someone comes to worship the Lord. So I'm proud of you. Someone say amen. But watch this. The Bible tells us also to be careful of the dangers of ingratitude. Be careful of the dangers of ingratitude. We learn a lot throughout scripture that there were people who were ungrateful. We learn especially about Israel and the wilderness who were freed from their captivity and their bonds and their chains from Pharaoh and the Egyptians. They were slaves for, I believe, 430 years, and God emancipated them and freed them. Only for them to go through the wilderness. God tested them and ultimately they rejected God because he was testing their devotion. They become so enamored with the miracles, but as soon as they were tested, they forsook God. And because of that, a whole generation had to pass away before inheriting the promised land. Maybe for us too, God does want to promote you. Maybe God does want no, God, I don't say maybe, God does want to bless you more, God does want to answer your prayers. But if we live with stinking thinking, maybe he's just saying, wait up, I have something for you, but until you change your mindset and your attitude, then I will send a blessing. That's honest truth. How about we learn in Luke chapter 17, verse 11 through 9? Jesus comes across 10 men who had leprosy, they had a bad skin disease, it was a horrible disease. Alright? We learned that nine of them were Jewish people and one of them was a Samaritan person. All right. And I think what's so theologically interesting too, when you real when you study about lepers, uh, they had to stay away from society because their disease was so contagious, but they had a society amongst themselves, which which they hung around other lepers. So Jesus comes around ten lepers, and Jesus says, as you go to the priest, you will be healed. You will go show yourself to the priest and you will be healed. Well, what happened was they did go, and as they went, the Bible says they were cleansed of their serious skin illness, of their leprosy. But only, watch this, only one person came back to Jesus to thank him. And the Bible says that person was a Samaritan, an outsider, a castaway, so to speak. And he came to not just give Jesus Jesus lip service, to show his life as a devotion. Thank you for healing me. There are many times we even learn about Hezekiah, who was a great king, one of the good kings. But that toward the end of his life he became filled with pride and became filled with his treasures, that he forgot the goodness of God, and God literally healed him of uh uh uh his disease, so to speak. And instead of giving glory to God when the time came, he told the surrounding countries, come look at the treasures, come look at my blessings, rather than show them or tell them, express to them, no, not just look at my treasures, look at what God has done for me. Someone say, Amen. You know, one of the things I've learned myself personally, having ingratitude is that when you fold up your arms and you have, you know, your f your your eyes and your face is kind of like you know what happens is you real you see everything that's missing in your life. When you have ingratitude, you see you have you it's almost you're blind to see all of the good things that God has done. And I don't know about you, but when I've realized that I have breath in my lungs and God has blessed me and given me my family, watch this. It makes when you watch this, we need to do this today and this week. When we pray and seek the Lord and talk to Him, you're gonna start to realize not how empty your life is, but watch this, how full your life is. When we be when we're thankful, we realize how full our life is. You have a job. Watch this. You may not you might not be happy with everything that's in your bank account, but watch this. At least you got something. Someone say amen. You may not have the complete health that you want, but at least you have some of your health. Someone say amen. Your marriage may not be where you want it to be, all right? But you're she's still there. Someone say hallelujah, amen. All right. One of the things that the Bible says that I think is very sobering, it says this in 2 Timothy chapter 3, verse 1 through 2. It says this. It says, You should know this, and it's Paul the Apostle writing this letter to Timothy, all right, his young protege, says, You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. And this is why honestly you need to be rooted and grounded in Jesus. Because if you don't have Jesus, what do you have? Come on, somebody. Your bank account is not gonna save you. Your your pedigree on Instagram is not gonna save you. Your followers, your so-called friends on Facebook are not gonna save you, but who will save you is Jesus Christ. Someone say amen. He was a solid foundation for you, your life, and your family. And honestly, you don't have to be a theologian to see what's going on out there, the climate. It says you should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. Verse 2, for people will love only themselves and their money. They will be they will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and watch this ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. But that there's that word ungrateful. Ungrateful. And what it means to say, so one of the marks of the culture, one of the what it means to say is that society is drifting from God, not realizing that every blessing comes from above. Someone say, Amen. One of the marks of culture, drifting from God is not just the increase of wickedness, but the decrease of gratitude. So gratitude is more than good man manners, it is evidence of a heart, watch this, that knows every good gift comes from God. Every good gift comes from God. And you know what makes me serve God and want to follow God and trust God is that when I think over my life, as you when you think over yours, think about your blessings. They're tailored, God tailor makes blessings just for you. Watch this. If you open your eyes this week, I promise you that God is gonna do something just for you. Come on, somebody. This week, God is gonna do just something just for you. Why? Because he loves you and he wants to show you that he knows you and he hears you. Come on, someone. This week, as we took uh Joy to her first appointment, um I had been praying about something for a while. And we got great news, she's doing great, but there is a couple probably in their 70s watching us hold joy, and I had joy at this particular time, and she she stopped me, she said, Wow, she's so beautiful. And you know, how old is she? And we talked a bit, and she told me, Oh, she's I'm a believer, and I told her, Oh, I'm a pastor, and and she was like, Wow. And then she told me something that let me know that God was listening to my prayers. She told me something in a way that touched my heart that she didn't know about. She didn't know me, I didn't know her, but we I knew that God had used her to touch to give a blessing over to me with her words. God loves you so much, He will do things just for you to show you that He loves you, that He cares about you. My third point is this how do I show my thanks? So, okay, Pastor Michael, we're talking about living a life of thanksgiving. Well, how do I show it? How do I do it? So, gratitude isn't just something you feel, it is something you practice. Number one is this give God your heart, give God your heart, follow him and walk with him. Give God your heart. And you know, one of the things that I see in this church I preach against, so to speak, all the time, and kind of kind of way I'm over it is we often are so busy and not only are we busy we are so distracted we are the most distracted people there is in the world so watch this put your phone down for a for a moment give God your heart number two is this recognize how God has blessed you recognize how God has blessed you you are loaded down and littered with small blessings and big ones and by the way maybe this is going to help someone with their depression and their discouragement honestly and and and why the as I'm talking about being thankful and living with gratitude hear me now what I'm not saying let me take a drink of water what I'm not saying is this that God doesn't see your disappointment that God doesn't acknowledge your your your your lack of content watch this no you can still be thankful and you can still allow God to share with him your disappointment he cares about you he loves you and by the way God wants to know why you're disappointed. By the way he already knows but he wants to talk to you about this the disappointment why are you disappointed things haven't gone the way maybe perhaps you wanted the way that you wanted them to go but tell God why and even in the midst of that be even in the middle of a disappointment. You know watch this God will meet you even in the lowest place of your life come on somebody now what I'm not saying is just to thank God and just you know override your dis your your discomfort and your disappointment and you know just pretend that you're not disappointed. That's not what I'm saying at all and that's not what the Bible is saying at all. And that's what the Psalms do not say by the way all right so watch this maybe for some of us you need to let God in even though you feel like you're in a low place in your life and watch this in the low place you're to go you're gonna discover the love of Christ like you never have before someone say amen. That's for someone here today that's for someone here uh online you're gonna discover the power and the majesty and the the love of Christ even in valleys come on someone say amen so we can't wait to thank God just on the summits but especially in the valleys number three how do I show God my thanks tell others about how God has been good to you tell others about how God has been good to you I guarantee you at work tomorrow there are people dealing with things that God has brought you through. There are things that other people are going through like depression discouragement maybe family issues that if you look at them and say hey brother you know what God hey sister God has done this for me and I want to encourage you he's gonna he can do the same for you come on someone say amen. Someone say amen and honestly watch this you don't yes invite them to church but also don't wait to bring them to church bring the love of Christ to your job bring the love of Christ to your neighbor someone say amen all right tell others about the good goodness of God and how he's been faithful to you number four is this how do I show God my thanks live a life of obedience live a life of obedience a life surrendered to God. In other words you know God didn't save us for us to just go do whatever we want to do and live however we want to live some of us want to live blessed lives and want his presence in our lives but if we just go do whatever we want to do and live however we want to live then then how are we we're not gonna really experience true blessing and we're not gonna experience the true presence of God and watch this I have the formula is right here. If you want to live a truly blessed life just do your best to follow this thing right here. Come on someone say amen and the more you read this thing the more you digest the word of God all right the more blessing will come to your life a healthy Christian lives on the diet of the word of God number six thank him like the Psalm says when you awake and before you go to bed I think one a good practice to always be thankful is that before you go to bed, rehearse and nurse what God has done for you in your day. God thank you for that blessing. God thank you for that free coffee. God thank you for the gas in my car. Number seven is pray. Pray pray pray and pray and pray more I want to encourage you. The Bible says in Luke chapter 18 verse 1 do not be discouraged when you pray. Seek the Lord and the Bible says when you seek him with all your heart he will be found by you pray and you will hear God. You know let me just let me just get this out of the way because I know it might be there you might think God is mad at you you might think God is out to get you you might think that God is still remembering an offense from years ago but here I'm here to tell you today and that's making you not pray that's making you afraid and timid to pray. But watch this let's just get this out of the way no God loves you God cares about you he want he forgives you he has new mercies for you so don't let the enemy distract you from going to the throne room in prayer and seeking him someone say amen verse 8 and you know watch this in my experience when I go to prayer and I seek God and I thank him I don't know about you but I feel the presence of God about me when I'm in prayer. And when I start saying thank you Jesus for this you know thank you Jesus for that you know thank you Lord the outcome was not how I hoped or even prayed for Lord there's disappointment but I still thank you. You know what happens? There is a supernatural peace that comes into my heart. I feel like the presence of the Lord is with me. I feel like worry and fear and anxiety leave the room because God because I'm acknowledging acknowledging and thanking him you know the Bible says this in Colossians chapter 2 verse 6 through 7 it says so then just as you receive Christ I'm gonna have the band the worship team come come on up here so then just as you receive Christ Jesus as Lord watch this continue say continue to live your lives in him rooted and built up in him strengthened in the faith as you were taught and watch this overflowing with thankfulness I love that overflowing with thankfulness I believe today that if you go home close the door and you start thanking God for the small blessings remembering the great blessings I promise you that the peace of God and the presence of God is going to touch your heart and your mind. So let me wrap this sermon up real quick. I do believe watch this I believe this with all my heart that number one your trials and your tribulations all have expiration dates. Come on somebody that's a word for someone right here right now you might be going through it you you someone here you might be in a trial you might be in a difficult storm and it's heavy on your shoulders it's burdening you you ain't sleeping that night it's exhausting you with worry but what if in your storm right now you have the let me just put this implant this thought in your mind that Lord even in my storm this won't last forever. Come on somebody this storm is not gonna rage on your goodness and your faithfulness will be forever not this trial I did I I declare that in Jesus' name over your life and I know that's gonna give you some joy amen and how about this for me personally I'm so grateful to God not just for the things that he's given me in my life the big things and the small things and the things in between that I'm not I'm not just thankful for you know for all the blessings you know what makes me incredibly joyful and rejoice is the blessing of his presence that God's in my corner come on somebody that God is in my boat that I'm not in this life alone that God hears me and that to me and I know that for you is the greatest blessing in our lives I heard a quote that said if you drink from the spring don't excuse me if you drink from the stream don't forget the spring I'm here to tell someone today maybe God has blessed you with the job. Maybe online God has blessed you with the wife or the boyfriend or the girlfriend. Maybe God has given you the promotion and maybe the Holy Spirit's convicting you to come hey you know I need to go back to church I need to thank God. I need to show my my my attitude of gratitude because he has blessed me because he has been gracious to me and I'm here to declare and tell you today God has blessed you God has been gracious to you and watch this God's nature and his character you ought to thank God just for this alone God's nature and God's character is he's good his nature and his character alone whether he's blessed you or not or whether you're not going through blessing in your life right now his nature and his character alone are good. What do I mean by that Pastor Michael what I mean is that God's character is filled with life he's filled with light he is the source and the standard of good and watch this if you want to find God in your life look for the good in your life come on somebody if you want to find God in your life look for the good in your life will someone let me cut the line will someone brought me a bought me a coffee will someone was kind to me well then I would say you've been blessed from above someone say amen God is good I know the news is hard I know social media can be tough at times with you know all the stuff going on out there but watch this dwell on the goodness of God because he's good there's a sunrise every morning because he's good I have breath in my lungs because he's good I'm still married come on somebody because he's good I have an eternity for tomorrow watch this because he's good he saved me he's healed me and I want to live for him I don't want to just give him lip service I want to give my life to him in service someone say amen I have every head bowed and every eye closed just for a moment as we have an intimate time of prayer together. Yeah I want to thank you for coming to church and I want to thank you for watching online and I want to declare to you that God has blessings Taylor made for you. If you might be actually let me pray for this real quick no one's watching you every head is bowed every eyes closed you know what you say Pastor Michael I'm gonna minister you for a second I do want to thank God and I do thank God but I'm going through a difficult storm right now and I might be dealing with disappointment. I am dealing with disappointment in my life if that's you I just want to pray for you can you raise your hand I believe in the power of prayer amen I see hands everywhere I'm going through a disappointment disappointing season in my life amen I see hands throughout the auditorium amen online if that's you can reach out to your O's let's pray Father we thank you so much for those who are raising their hands Lord you know every heart Lord you know every mind you know every life Lord you know what we're going through in our lives two and Lord through our disappointment we surrender to you maybe something didn't go the way we planned maybe things didn't turn out the way we hoped maybe we're still Lord waiting for prayers to be answered but even through the storm we know God and choose we confess that you are in our boat. We confess that you are in our corner and we believe that this trial and this season will have an expiration date we know God that we're gonna come out on top we know God that we're gonna come through this because we trust you and you love us Lord. Church I want to pivot for a moment and I have a very important question for you. Do you know the Lord Jesus Christ? Do you have a right living relationship with him? Are you living for God? Are you living for yourself? God loves you he has a plan for you he has a purpose for your life you are no mistake regardless of the mistakes you made in your life what that whatever's gone on in your life Jesus has a pathway of purpose and love and healing for you and watch this you will never know true joy and true peace and I would argue even true love in your life until you give your life to the one who's made you your life will never make sense until you give it gave it to the one who makes everything make sense maybe you're dealing with disappointment and discouragement and fear and anxiety let me tell you when the the Bible says that if you give your heart to Jesus days of refreshing will come with Pastor how do I get put how do I give my life in my heart to Christ so the Bible says this all that call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. The Bible doesn't want you to be mistaken we can be sure that we're going to heaven how how can we be sure by Jesus Christ accepting him that he's died on the cross for you and in three days rose again and defeated death darkness and the devil forevermore that's how you can be certain so you say Pastor Michael I want to put my trust in him by faith so here's what I'm gonna ask you to do I'm not gonna put a mic in your face I'm not gonna ask for any information from from you or for I'm simply going to ask you to raise your hand right where you're at and we're all gonna pray a prayer together.
