The Shadow of Authenticity
featuring Susan White, LCSW
In this podcast I discuss the shadow of authenticity, which may sound ambiguous until listeners understand the significance of where and how the shadow originates, how it can help or hurt us and how we evolve by identifying shadow aspects. EVERYONE has shadow parts or aspects!
The value of distinguishing shadow aspects of business owners (in particular) is founded on the notion that a small business reflects the values and character of the owner, and those values and character filter into management as well as frontline workers. In discussing the shadow in a business setting, I am assuming the listener has a desire to learn, grow and develop. Shadow qualities are aspects, or qualities people exhibit that are typically unconscious to us, and can be damaging to relationships, if we aren't aware of them – especially in relationships. Even the notion of “relationship” has a shadow!
At times, our shadow can show up in ways that sabotage, limit, lie to or even tear us down. If that happens – shadows can do the same to our businesses if we are thinking, feeling, and behaving unconsciously. The intention of shadow work is to always bring the unconscious into our awareness so we can take action!
