BOOK REVIEW TRANSCRIPT – Dead End Detective

 00:01

Hello gentle readers. Welcome to Book Club Reporter Book Reviews Podcast. I’m your host and Book Club Reporter, Laura Jay.

 00:10

 This is Season 2 - Episode 29.

 00:18

Today I will talk about Dead-End-Detective, which I will describe as a cozy mystery.

 00:26

Okay, what I would like to do first, is to go over the publisher’s book description and other pertinent information regarding Dead-End Detective, before I cover my book review. So, here we go.

 00:37

Dead-End Detective is A Piper and Porter Mystery from Hallmark Publishing and  written by author: Amanda Flower. The genre is listed as mystery & thrillers (but as I mentioned earlier, I’m describing it as a cozy mystery). The Release Date of Dead-End Detective was August 25, 2020, so it is available now.

 01:00

Dead-End Detective has a Starred Review on Library Journal! And USA Today bestselling author and Agatha Award winner, Amanda Flower, brings charm and intrigue to her first cozy mystery for Hallmark.

01:17

The publisher describes the book as follows:  Darby Piper is in shock. A seasoned female detective, she worked with Samantha Porter at the Two Girls Detective Agency. Now, Samantha is dead, and it doesn’t look like an accident. In fact, evidence is pointing toward Darby. Uh Oh!

 01:39

Darby had expected to inherit Samantha’s half of the agency, but Samantha had recently changed the will to leave it to Tate Porter, her nephew, who returns to town. Tate is no private eye. He’s a world traveler and a veteran whose military past is also something of a mystery. But as he helps Darby delve into secret histories and real estate development plans, he proves to be a talented amateur sleuth. Will the agency have a future…even if Darby can solve this murder mystery in time?

 02:14

This first in series cozy mystery includes a free Hallmark original recipe for Berry Trifle. And yes, I now have the recipe, but I haven’t tried making it yet.

 02:26

I’d like to take a short break here to tell my listeners how easy and fast I got started podcasting.

If you’ve heard my Buzz Sprout podcasting ad before just go ahead and skip forward one minute and you’ll get right back to the book review.

If my story helps others get started podcasting as fast and as easy as I did, well that’s just wonderful.

Here’s my story in a nut shell. I did a little research on how to start a podcast. I came across Buzzsprout.com. Buzzsprout has an amazingly easy interface! I quickly found everything I needed to upload my audio recordings. And within a very short period of time, I found my podcast listed in major podcast directories. Now, I’m having fun turning my book reviews into podcasts.

Here’s more great news! Buzzsprout has come up with a great way for podcasters to monetize their podcasts. I’m doing it, and you can do it too! If you’ve been wanting to get into podcasting, here’s your chance. To help you get started I’ve placed a Buzzprout link in the show notes of this podcast. And following the link in the show notes lets Buzzsprout know I sent you and gets you a twenty dollar gift card, if you sign up for a paid plan and helps you support my podcast show.

Hey, okay, let’s get back to our show now.

03:42

Okay, here we go. Here is my book review of Dead-End Detective: I just want to tell everyone how much I enjoyed this entertaining cozy murder mystery written by Amanda Flower! I can tell you Dead-End Detective is an enjoyable read and a fairly wholesome story as well. So you can pretty much pass the book on to a friend or relative without worry of recrimination.

 04:10

I actually listened to the audio version of Dead-End Detective. And, I just have to say, kudos for the narration which is awesome! Laura Faye Smith brings a flawless narration to this engaging story. As far as I am concerned, Ms. Smith achieved narration greatness in giving a distinct voice to each character, thereby bringing them to life for readers/listeners.

 04:36

Amanda Flower brings to readers a believable and engaging mystery. Dead-End Detective is chock full of authentic and entertaining characters. And who wouldn’t love Mrs. Burger? I must say I was completely beguiled by the senior woman’s sly, green-eyed, orange Maine coon cat, Romy. I’m not sure we will ever really know why that cat continues to climb that big ole oak tree, knowing full well someone will have to climb that tree to bring him back down to safety.  Hmm…in fact, wouldn’t it be cool if a later book in this series would actually provide an interesting answer as to why Romy continues to climb that tree? Hmmm. Hey, I truly don’t know…but I just can’t help thinking that would be cool. And…as it turns out, Dead-End Detective is the first book in a new book series...so, yay! I can’t wait to read the next book in the Dead-End Detective series.
