Get ready to dance the night away with The Brian McDermott Band!
So I just uploaded our new promotional video for 2024-2025 and as I was exporting it, I was thinking that the audio might work as a podcast. I talk about all the different members of the band, some frequently asked questions. So here it is. This is the audio ripped from the video our new promotional video. If you want to see the video, obviously it's better check it out on YouTube or our Facebook page or Instagram. My name is Brian McDermott and I'm a wedding band in Ireland since 2006. The aim of the band is to keep the floor full all night. It doesn't matter what we've to play. We want everybody to walk away at the end of the night thinking that was the best wedding they were ever at.
Speaker 2:She took my arm and I don't know how it happened.
Speaker 1:We meet before she said she can't look back. It's a six piece band. I'm the lead singer and I play a little bit of saxophone. On guitar and vocals, we've got Keev, and he's an unbelievable guitar player. He's great at getting the right guitar sounds for each song, which is always important and especially when you cover so many different genres of music like we do. On female vocals, we've got Aving. She joined the band in 2022 and has made a massive difference. It's great having the female vocals in the band and it really means we can cover any song we want and I think it makes it a lot more interesting for the crowd.
Speaker 1:On bass and vocals, we've got Mick, and he's been there since day one. He's actually never missed a gig since 2006. He's played with loads of different bands down through the years and has a massive repertoire of songs. On keys, we've got Ornn. He's the youngest member of the band. He's an amazing piano player and he brings a great energy to the stage.
Speaker 1:On drums, we've got Mickey Belton, and he'd be a bit of a legend in the drumming world. His tempos are always rock solid. Getting the right tempo is very important, especially for hardcore waters or drivers, and he nails it every night. 90% of our work comes from people who've already seen the band live, so it's important. Every night we go out to put on the best show we can, saying that, though it probably is one of the best jobs in the world, there's no better feeling than when you're standing up on the stage. The floor is full and everybody's enjoying themselves because of the music that we're playing. Our set is a non-stop mix of everything from Walters, jives, rock, pop, 80s, anatondas, big in the charts at the minute, and because it's non-stop, we don't really give your guests a chance to sit down, so they'll end up dancing and stuff that they usually wouldn't get up for us.
Speaker 2:Superbreed some routine. Yeah, let's hear it. Hold me. Oh my, you make me high, so check your loving woman. Yeah.
Speaker 1:When people stop. When people stop, every wedding is different. Some weddings like an extra bit of Jive and a Walson. Some weddings don't like that at all, so we'll just leave it out and put in an extra bit of Pop or Rock or whatever the crowd are into on the night. Every wedding band in Ireland probably has a similar set list on their website, but I think the important thing is how you play the songs and when you play the songs during the night. Every wedding is slightly different, so you do need to adapt your set depending on the wedding. All our footage online is 100% live. I know sometimes the videos can be a little bit rough and ready, but I like it like that. I think if a couple of books is from Australia or the UK or Canada, I'm confident that when we're playing their wedding, the band they hear on the night is exactly what they heard online when they booked.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I'm a broken hearted losing the tape. You are dead. Why did I ever let you go? Mama better than me. I'm alive. I can never let you go. Yeah, you better run. You need your joy. You can hang out with all the boys. It's fun to know why I am scared. I love you all. It seems to me I've got a feeling. This is so mean.
Speaker 1:We do offer a band and disco package. We use all the same equipment for both, so it means there's no break in between, and because we're using the band's PA system for the disco, you'll always get the best sound. We really do play all types of music, everything from Walters, jives, rock, pop, charts, 80s and everything else in between you ready.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:We get together about once a month to rehearse and go over any upcoming first dances. It's also a great chance. If any of the band have an idea of a new song that might work in this session, we can run it and see if we can fit it in somewhere. We're also fairly ruthless with cutting songs, so if a song was big in the charts a few months ago, we learned it and put it in the session. No matter how much we like the song, if it's not filling the floors the way it used to, we're just going to cut it straight away. When it comes to your first dance, we can learn your first dance song, no Problem, and generally we ask for about one month's notice.
Speaker 2:I just agree. I travel the world at a seven-seat.
Speaker 1:Set up time is about 25 minutes, but sometimes it can take the venue a few minutes to clear the stage area, so good rule is always one hour from when you stand up from the top table to walk them back onto the floor for your first dance. Hello and welcome along to another episode of the Wedding Band Show with myself, brian McTermitt. A few years ago, I started a podcast called the Wedding Band Show. The idea behind the podcast is to get on band members from all different bands around Ireland to give advice to people who are looking for a wedding band. I've other suppliers on as well, but the main focus is always wedding bands.
Speaker 1:The videographer and your photographer will be there, still on site. They're probably booked up until your first dance, I think. To sum up the band we're just six friends who genuinely like to play all different types of music. We hit the studio any chance we get and we've recorded a lot of songs that you wouldn't typically call wedding band songs, but we just love all different types of music. If anybody is looking for a wedding band, they can send me a message anytime.
