Episode 256 – Lessons Learned in 34 Years of Sobriety

In this special episode of God Took Me to Las Vegas, I’m sharing “34 lessons I’ve Learned in 34 Years of Sobriety”—truths forged through brokenness, healing, and grace. These aren’t just phrases—they’re lived experiences. Like, “One drink is too many, a thousand never enough”—a reminder that moderation never worked for me. Or “Gratitude changes everything”—because shifting my focus from what I lacked to what I had changed my entire direction.

Some lessons are tough: “Relapse is a detour, not a dead end,” or “You can’t do this alone.” Others are freeing: “It’s okay to say no,” and “You’re allowed to outgrow the old you.” Each one reflects a layer of the recovery journey—messy, miraculous, and meaningful.

And hey, sobriety doesn’t mean we can’t laugh. Like the time I told my wife she should embrace her mistakes… and she gave me a hug. Or when I realized I was eating too many chips—guess I was just getting too much sodium.

So whether you’re one day in or thirty-four years clean, these lessons are for you. Because if God met me in Vegas, He’ll meet you right where you are too.
