South of the WK Parkway. Okay. Fair enough. I mean, he deserves a dean this week, but I can't find my bell. Oh man. You've got to get better on finding this bell. It's like your one, it's your one job. Yeah, I know. I literally have no idea where it is. I think so. If I had to guess, there's two little sidekicks that probably misplaced it somewhere. But we'll find it before next week. So they've probably been practicing for one day whenever you're gonna let them ding the bell for us. Yeah. That could work. That's right. So our show was a little bit delayed last week, um, release on the podcast side. Um yeah, what would say, maybe? I don't know. What do you think, David?

You know, Matt just jumped right in. Matt just jumped right in and's like, oh, everybody's not home. I was like, yeah, we might just wait a couple days till we get back home until I post that. So yeah, I figured I'd post it about the same time it came on the radio, and that worked out good. And if nothing else, it's just a good excuse for me just completely forgetting about it. I thought that was more it. That's probably more it, but um, but yeah, sorry about that. If anybody was uh we we really we really kept you waiting, uh made it a very suspenseful uh podcast release.

That won't be that won't be hard to figure out though. I've got a sign out front, so it's not like we can hide from the public. That's very true.

So I did, you know, so Mark and I were both we were both at the beach with family uh last week and talked a little bit last week's show about some things, but I one thing that really I noticed a lot that I wanted to talk about are these little speakers. Have y'all seen these little speakers that people that you can like have in the water? Well, they look, yeah, they're like look like a little lunchbox-sized speaker, basically. And and people, these kids and young adults, they just just walk around with them and throw them in the pool and float down the raising river with their their speakers.

There was one guy floating around with one sitting on his chest, and it was like more than lunchbox size. It was I it was some, yeah, there was some. And he was just floating around with it, just blaring music, and I'm like, I like music as much as the next guy, but I'm not gonna do that.

And it was not that much. I don't understand why, like, you know, they were all listening, so most of them were all listening to kind of the same country rock music like that you would listen to at the beach, and and it was you know, so they were all kind of listening to the same genres, it's just like everybody had to listen to their music and play it loud enough where you could hear their music, and yeah, it's just like this weird chorus of like all these little speakers around the pool area. And I just I don't know, it's like I don't I don't get it. Maybe I'm maybe I'm getting old now, and I look at this stuff and I'm like, why, why? I didn't even care. Like, I liked all the music they were playing, I just didn't like the fact there was seven different speakers just playing different stuff. So it's kind of weird if you get in the lazy river and you float around, you can it's just like you're changing the song every 30 seconds and you hear hear another song every time you get around there.

So it wasn't like a group of people had one, it was like everybody had their in they just had one listening to it by themselves. Why not?

Oh, there's there was at least there was at least seven, probably 10 to 12 of these speakers in like this one pool area easily. There may have been more than that. Huh. The beach get down to the beach, they're everywhere.

I mean, some people would sit on the edge and and play their music, and others would would actually have them floating around the lazy river with them, and I'm just like I don't know.

I it just I don't know. It's just one of them things that I just couldn't I just couldn't see. I don't know. I don't get it.

And and the amount of cell phones, did you notice how many cell phones people were floating around the around the lazy river still holding? Yeah, why I that's what I thought. You know, I didn't even let I didn't I left mine in the room. By the time I left mine in the room, you know, one of us took a phone, you know, or if I did, you know, take it with me, I left it in our bag on the side. But I get so nervous I'm just trying to get over the phone. That and I have small kids, so I can just see one of them knocking it out of my hands, you know, and then not being able to catch it and have to move it all the way around again to pick it back up.

Yeah, man. I mean, if you've got a case on it, it's waterproof, but it's like you don't want a sub phone as waterproof, but you don't submerge it.

They're water submersible, I think. I don't know that they're waterproof.

I'm not testing mine out on it.

I'm not gonna test mine on purpose. It has too many opportunities to get wet. You can't really uh you can't just pull the battery out of these and stick them in a thing of rice. Bang of rice. Y'all remember that with the flip phone you could pull the battery out that was half the phone and stick it all in a thing of rice. Yep, you sure could. Those were the days. That's what he's talking about, Matt. For our viewers that uh that can't see that can't see. I've got a speaker here on my phone. This one's this one's a smaller one, it's about the size of a a Yeti tumbler, but anyway. So it was uh pretty hot at the beach. Didn't rain maybe one time.

Yeah, it rained one time over the week.

And I think it rained nearly every day here and hasn't rained a single time since we've been home. That's true. Uh we might be turning around and going back. Yeah, we came back on Sunday.

So if if it don't start raining, we might have to turn around and y'all didn't go back on Sunday. If it did, it was before I got back. We did get rain Sunday because I had uh well we didn't get as much rain here as they got in downtown Etown. Downtown Etown must have got five or six inches of rain very fast because Valley Creek came up and water actually got over Gaither Station Road there towards the Ring Road intersection, uh there by the railroad tracks. So I had some corn that had water. Well the 20 acre cornfield had water. Two two and a half feet deep, two and a half to three feet deep, all the way across it.

So but it went out pretty quick. So hopefully no damage there, but we'll see.

Speaking of of trendy and cool things, talking about those speakers or whatever. Um, I saw that there's a new movie coming out about that's the Odyssey. It's based on the Odyssey. No.

Which Sheep Detectives is out on the Daniel's looking for a detective right now here. Just uh my kids watched that last week. One of the days it was raining. I was working in the office, and wife and kids watched it, and they've talked about it ever since.

They love it. It's it's fun, it's a fun movie to watch, and it's not it's not bad, but not gonna win any Oscars, but it's uh it's a pretty I guess is that a movie? Is that what they give movies? Yeah, I think yeah. But yeah, pretty good. But yeah, we'll get into the sheet detectives in a second. But um uh the uh but yeah, they've got this new movie coming out about the Odyssey. It's like a who the director is a really popular one and makes really good movies. But I don't I don't care about seeing it at all. Wow. If I want to watch something about the Odyssey, I'm gonna watch Old Brother Where Aren't Thou. So I think if anybody, you know, just if you're thinking about going to watch that new movie, just go find Old Brother Where Aren't they? I'm sure it's streaming somewhere. I mean I may have to fire it up. I've been thinking about it.

It is. Yeah, it's and it's very, yeah, it's based on it, but it's good.

Like and it's I mean, I don't want to spoil it for anybody, but uh, I'm gonna go ahead and say that nobody's probably gonna tell Matt Damon that they thought he was a toad. Do not seek the treasure. Do not seek the treasure. It's a soggy bottom boys. Yeah, it's good stuff. Drop your favorite O Brother Where Art Thou in the comments to us. We'll read them on the air next week. Definitely quotes. Didn't uh didn't they do Oh Brother Where Art Thou one time at the Cecilia Almost Cecilia Days Almost Talent show. Didn't they didn't somebody dress up as the soggy bottom boys and do that? Somebody did dress up and saggy Saggy something saggy bottom boys or something. I can't remember who that was.

I saw some pictures of that, but um I've that's one of those things I've never gone to. So any of our Cecilia listeners, if you remember, I remember so I remember them talking about that or seeing pictures of that.

I didn't go to a lot of them. I'd I'd been to a few, but years ago, um HCEC TV would be there and they would record it, and you'd get to watch it later on on Channel 2. Back in the old cable days, they would. Yeah. That's when the the Harden County Extension show that we used to do, whatever it was like four o'clock in the morning.

Yeah. Y'all got some good clientele tuning into that stuff. Yeah, buddy. But yeah, you're talking about sheet detectives. I think you need a sheet detective here at the Carpenter branch. You know, it didn't have nothing missing, but we had some had some criminal activity. That's probably because I told everybody on the radio that we were gone. See, I'm not sure if this happened while I was gone or before I left, but I had a uh sh uh no u-turn license plate added to the front of my truck and you know, pictures of sheep and the word EWE U. No U-turns. And uh I don't know how long it's been on there, but I just saw it uh I think it was yesterday or the day before.

Solid close to a week before you went on vacation. Yeah, it was.

So I pull into my digital think about it and really figure it out.

And you didn't notice it until who did you notice it?

Or did you notice it when you came out of Menards that day? I noticed it. I went into Menards and and got a couple things, and when I was coming out, I was walking towards the front of my truck and I just stopped and I was like, What? How long has that been on there? Yeah, I may have said something else after what, but uh but it was yeah, I was like, where did that come from? How did that long has it been on there? I had one of my security cameras and went back like two weeks and couldn't figure it out.

So I'm not sure because I guess the way you pull in, you can't see the front license plate on your truck.

And the and the camera, but yeah, it just it doesn't catch it in time to see the front, so I don't know when it happened. But anyway, whoever got me, they got me, and uh I will get them back at some point.

Well, I'll go on and tell you it was somebody that was is a co-host of this show.

Oh, I know. And I'm pretty sure I know when he did it now because the last time he was here at my house.

Yeah, there was there were several of us that knew about it and knew about I've seen, well, I you know, I've seen a picture of the pull the license plate before, and uh I'll just say yeah, I'll put it this way.

It's not probably not who you think it is. So but you think on it a week and we'll I'm I'm gonna think I'm gonna bet we'll reveal.

That was the distractor? Yeah. Nope. Nope. You think on it for a week. Yeah, I'll think on it. We'll uh we'll reveal the culprit next week. Fair enough.

So we we have all these things that are tying into sheep. Um even cameras. What about flock cameras? Have y'all been seeing everything about flock cameras?

SPEAKER_01

Maybe you need some flock cameras. I was gonna tie it in that way so maybe you could go to the flock system and uh see whenever it started popping up on your phone. May have been one, uh may have been one where the crime occurred because it was fairly close to police station. There uh there wasn't oh no, there was not. Now it's all making sense. Well, you're now now it's all makes sense. You done you done ratted us all out, Matt. So um, but actually, no, there's not a flock camera there. So I first noticed them. There's one on St. John Road. Have you noticed that one at Franklin Lane? Across from Franklin Lane. So it's mounted on a telephone pole there, and I noticed it probably six months ago, and I was like, what is that? And every time I drive by, I was like, it's it just looks like a solar panel. It's a solar panel or something. It's a solar solar panel looking thing with a looks like a about the size of a 90s camera camera quarter hanging there on the pole, pointing out towards the road. And that's the only one in town that I've noticed. And it's because it just sticks out like a sore thumb. And I was like, that's some kind of camera. Like, what is that? Is that you know the the police put that up? You know, is that a homeowner put that up? Like, what is that? Then I noticed last week or 10 days, these things started popping up of uh dflock.org and it maps all of the flock cameras in the area, and that one's that one's marked. Um there's several around schools in the area. There's some out by the extension office. There's one out by the extension office. Have you seen the memes going around of Mel Gibson with the saws all in his hand leaned up against the light? I've seen that one. From the back.

Yeah, that's good. That's you know, there's I think I saw like maybe one city in northern Kentucky was really getting ready to get a bunch, and then it the the public backlash, they they decided not to put them up or took some down. I was really surprised to see there was that many here in Etown. It's it's pretty easy to find on Facebook if you just look up Flock Cameras, Elizabeth Town. It'll it'll show you you can find those really easily where they're at. But yeah, there's a lot of people.

I did see a uh somebody that's in law enforcement comment on somebody had shared a post about how they were invading privacy or something. And apparently they are really helpful to law enforcement and solving crime. Uh can find help find stolen vehicles and murder cases and tracking people after a robbery or whatever because it's well and that's it can track where a license plate is. And that's a and that's a good thing that they they can be used for. And I don't have any problem using them for something like that, but it's potential of one of those uh slippery slope things where oh, well, we used it for this crime scene, but oh, let's do this over here this one time and just see. Just thank you all.

We're we're not that far removed from a time where they were writing down license plates of people who went to church. So you've got these cameras that are set up, and we're gonna let government do this again. You know, what's gonna keep the next time that somebody gets a cough and we all freak out about it, and you can't go drive to go get groceries because they're gonna take a license plate and and you're gonna get in trouble for that. That's not, I don't like this at all. I I'm glad I'm sure it can help find criminals, but cell phones can too. And we everybody's got one on them. Maybe we need to focus on that rather than trying to record everything everybody does.

Well, I'll play devil's advocate here a little bit. Um, you know, the lockdown was bad, but lockdown was kind of nice in spring of 2020 during planting season because here in Etown, where there's a whole lot of traffic, we could just move up and down the road, didn't have any trouble at all. So I'm not saying I want to know the lockdown, but I'm saying it made spring planting move a whole lot faster, moving wide equipment up down the road. You'd still have to go through all the roundabouts now, though. I know. And all the flock cameras. Yeah, but I bet you every roundabout has a flock camera on it. Actually, no, not currently. There's some out there though that are that are sitting at roundabouts.

I think I saw there's 70, 70 cameras in E Town.

So I zoomed out a second ago on this map, and it's kind of hard to see. So basically on this map I've got Cecilia, Etown, Lebanon Junction, Radcliffe. 88 cameras in view. And if you zoom out just a little bit further, are there any outside of city limits? Yes. I'm pretty sure that one on St. John Road. There ain't any on Howl Valley Road, I'll tell you. The one on St. John Road is not in the city limits. I'm fairly certain of that. And yes, there is outside of the city limits because there is one in the big town of Big Springs, Kentucky. And there's not even a stoplight in that town. Is there one in Upton? Yeah, East Millerstown Road, surprisingly.

No, there is not one in Upton. You go from South Dixie around the jail all the way to Bonnieville before you get another one. Probably need some in Bonnieville. And around the jail. Any town New Haven, Bargetown, Lebanon Junction, Springfield, Lebanon. A few in Campbellsville, a few on Q10. So surprisingly, no, not a single one in Hodginville. Keep up the good work, Hodginville. Of course, all the excitement happens in Hodginville around the uh camera there from the bank, so they already catch all the all the things that happen around the swerkle or whatever y'all called that at the at the square. Swirkle. Swerkle. Because it's it's a square, but it's a circle.

Other news, daylight savings time has been talked about. Um, and doing this time change or no time change. Uh kind of has some has some agricultural implications, and really I think the reason it was started in the first place was to somewhat help. Help with uh agricultural and and trade work. Uh but I I don't know. What what's your all's thoughts on on some of this?

So the thing to remember when we move the clocks, we're not making any more daylight. Exactly. All we're doing is moving the time that the daylight hits. So I've seen some things recently that they tried this in the 70s and everybody hated it, so they took it back. And I will argue, yes, that's probably the case. And do we need to you know stay daylight savings time all the time? In my opinion, no. Because I think what we need to do is this fall when it comes up time, we need to fall back 30 minutes instead of an hour and just leave it alone forever. We couldn't do that though, we'd be off 30 minutes everybody else's time in the world. Yeah. I guess we would. Bad idea, Mark.

Yeah, but I do think I do think you fall back and you stay back. I think is is no? See uh you need to go check out Sean Sean Crow, Central Kentucky Weather. He had a really good take um on his Facebook page about it and and talking about it. Uh one of the things that I I've been hearing a lot, like one of the most one of the like biggest arguments to not change this time or to not mess with the ch the time change type stuff, is that kids will have to be waiting in the dark for the school bus.

Well, guess what?

When you live out here and your bus picks you up, it's you you gotta you're in the dark for the teen anyway.

Well, I mean it doesn't matter.

Kids have to be at school anyway at what, 725?

Here they do. Now it's probably it's not like that, I'm sure, in some in some other, like in the city or in your bigger cities um in Kentucky.

That's true. But here, you know, and if you've got a very far car ride, I mean, even in the in the winter time, it's not that daylight at 7 15 and 7 20 in the morning.

Yeah, I mean, I think the bus comes by a little before seven at our house, so it's pretty much dark. There may be a little daylight creeping up some of the times, but not much.

But for me, I would rather, and of course, I don't have a you know, time punch, time clock job, but I would rather start my day early in the dark and have more time at the end of the day. And especially if I worked an eight to five, I would much rather go to work in the daylight or in the dark and come home and have time to do something at home in the yard or on the farm or whatever with some daylight rather than having to go straight to the lights. So that would be staying on the time we're on now, right? Would do that.

Correct. Yes, yeah, that is correct. Yeah, I may have I may have spoken wrong earlier, but yes, you'd stay on the time that you're on now.

So that's we drop our kids off at school there's a point there in the dead of winter that it is still dark. Well, and it's gonna be that way. It's gonna get darker every day. Or yeah, the nighttime is gonna get longer every day until the what winter solstice when it's turned, turns and starts. Right. The doors open at Creekside at 7 to 10. So it's there's a point period of time in the winter there that it's dark then.

Yeah, yeah, and that and that school bus, I mean, and that's you know, and that bus, we're like my kids are one of the last ones to get picked up by that bus. So there's kids out plenty earlier than that. Yeah.

I can remember a lot of times as a kid getting on the school bus, especially when I was riding it to West Harden. That it was it was dark, and it was dark for most of the ride to the school. That's just that's just what it was.

I I I hate to transition, but I since we're on the topic of schools, I gotta rant a little bit about something. I'm I'm sorry if I'm coming off very rantish this week. Old bands and groups. Yeah, so my daughter is going to West Harden middle school now. And how's that feel? Yeah, that makes you feel real old. But I I was kind of reminded of something. So they're the West Harden Lakers. Yeah. And this will be the last year that they'll be at that school, and it's also gonna be the last year that they will be called Lakers. Why? Well, I don't know. I think they're doing something where they're basically uh vertically integrating the the uh I don't know, the mascots or the logos for these schools, so they're all bruins now, and um it really kind of ticks me off. Does that grind your gears? It grinds my gears because you are destroying any history, you know, like it's like you're just killing the culture of these small towns, and it's and it seems you know, it seems like a minimal thing, but it really is like you had uh the Howe Valley Wildcats, the East Harden Rebels, um, the West Harden Lakers.

No, they're Bruins now. They moved to the new school. Okay, they became the East Harden Bruins. To be fair though, I'm kind of surprised that one lasted as long as it did.

That's probably true. But still, it they didn't have I just I just don't like this whole I don't know. I just I have not been a big fan of that, and I didn't realize it until I understood like they were uh some of my daughters into sports and they were gonna have to, you know, get some shirts and stuff, and they were talking about, well, they're only gonna be good for a year, and I was like, huh.

That's why he's saying they're not staying with the name and he's gonna have to buy clothing this year and only get to use it one time and then has to buy all new clothing for seventh grade. So that's why he's really mad. He don't really care about the the name.

But it's all this, it's it's just little things that just happen over time, but you're just completely erasing some of those memories and connections to to small towns and well, and that happened for years.

I mean, when they built Lakewood School, they closed down uh Western. I don't know what their mascot was, and they closed down Lynnvale, and they closed down another.

So you already you don't even remember now. I don't even remember now. And that's not even been that long ago.

So I mean it's it hasn't. And then when they built Socity Valley, they closed down Howe Valley, they closed down uh or they pulled kids from other schools too to fill that one. So um I don't think elementary schools had mascots when we did it. GC Burkhead, we were the Bruins.

Yeah, and Socity Valley is the Bruins now, and it's just and and then on top of that, it's just there's no way for even if you are in these small town areas, even though your school may not be like it's how you don't really have an identity, like you have to, you know, you go to middle school or elementary school uh games and it's Bruins versus Bruins. Like it's just it's it's I think it's just really bad.

I think it's just really dumb. Yeah, I I agree. I I don't like it when it comes to that. You know, when you're taking you know Cecilia Valley's playing GC Burkhead in a volleyball game or whatever, you know, mix it up. They're all wearing the same because they're all wearing the same colors. It's just figure out well, does that say East Harden? Or, you know, or is that gonna say East Harden? Is that West Harden? Or what's it say, you know?

Um and I I think they're doing, I think it's the same with North and uh I think they're doing it as yeah, they're they're they're saying those same you know, logos, whatever, but it's just I don't know. I just it was just something that caught my attention this week, and I know it happens in other counties and um and other places too. Uh I just it just it just kind of grinds my gears a little bit.

That's just the school board's uh one step towards one big huge community campus where they're gonna have all socialism on the same campus. So going back a little bit, do you know what our actual mascot was at East Harden? I went to East Harden 65. It was a it was a straight-up pirate guy with a straight up Confederate Confederate soldier. People would blow their minds today. What was the Washington County we didn't have a mask on?

Was it the Lions? We had a we've had a Upton Lions. Oh, that's and did you call your gym the like the Lions Den? That would have been good. That could have been some, that could have been some so we were uh in Washington County, it was the Washington County Commanders, and I can remember when I was in school, our logo had a sword and a gun, a rifle in it, and like a commander like hat. Again, people today. I could remember like, you know, there was this one student that would always write, oh, we need to take the gun out. And then um, and then sure enough, it was a few years after I was out of there, they ended up taking out the gun and put just making it two swords. Um, so I was like, well, swords kill people too, but I guess I don't know. Left left the swords in there. Swords don't kill people. People kill people with swords.

We do we haven't really talked much of hag stuff.

We have something big uh something big kind of came out this week. Uh we don't have a lot of details for it this week, but Arc County uh for 2025 numbers have come out uh for most counties across the country. I think they said there's like 77% of the corn and soybean numbers have been brought in and figured uh as to what the county payment rate will be for 2025. Now, those won't get paid until October of this year for 2025 crop year. And it will reflect, if if I'm not wrong, it will reflect uh new base acre allocations by that point. So what we know at this point, um, and again, this is base acres, not planted acres, uh, in all the counties that I looked at uh being Grayson, Harden, Hart, and LaRue. Basically everything's maxing out, isn't it? The wheat payment is maxed out. Um they don't have numbers in yet for corn or soybeans. Um, barley, those kind of things. And well, they they show that they're going to max or they believe they're going to max out, but in the spreadsheet that pulled up, they don't have all of the it's missing the actual yield in a lot of counties. Um it's missing the national price and the actual revenue and the formula rate and stuff like that. So they're continuing to upgrade that as it goes. You can follow that. I found it on uh Successful Farming. They put a article out talking about it. And then I think you can actually go to the USDA website, um Fsa.usda.gov and look up ArcPLC, and then you can see if you want to keep track of that and see what you're gonna potentially get, but or just wait and be really surprised in October whenever the direct deposit hits your account. I think didn't we get one for twenty-four in the fall of twenty five? We didn't. Yeah, and I a lot of people had no idea that was coming. I just saw a direct deposit hit my bank account, and it took me half a day to figure out what it was. Well, it usually takes with with direct deposit now, you usually get the money two to three days ahead of getting a notification in the mail of of what it was. So again, if you got any questions on that, call the fine people over at the Hardinaleroo FSA office and they'll walk you through. I'm sure they appreciate that, Mark, since they just got done with crop reporting days. Well, I mean, they're basically probably gonna be sitting around. I mean, today we're recording this on Wednesday the 15th. Today was the last day to fire your crop report. So, Matt, I hope you got yours done. Mine's been done a month. Okay. I don't know what you're doing. Proud of you. Close to it. Proud of you. So they're probably gonna be sitting around and not have anything to do now.

So another thing, have you all seen um these new this new ag exemption stuff that we're supposed to be doing? Or I think I think we're supposed to be getting it, is it? It is aren't we supposed to be getting letters?

Well, so it is now time to do the full renewal again. So when we did that the first time. Well, so the first time you did it, it was a two-year three-year deal. The year you applied for it and the two years after. Then they sent another letter and said No, they didn't, not to everybody. That if you okay. They were supposed to send a letter, they did not send a letter. They have letters on file for everybody. I ran into that. I had people that needed it, and I had to go and email and they would email me a copy of the letter. But basically saying that because your original letter expired at the end of like 2024. So they sent a letter and and renewed everybody to the end of 2026. So everybody's will now be coming up in 2026.

I think everybody's is supposed to expire December 31st, 2026. That's what it's what it says.

And I'm sure this will all go flaw. You know how bad it went up. I mean, it's just like the wheels are greased and it's just no problems at all. They're so easy to deal with. And everybody's on the same page and knows what they're talking about. And it will be completed online. And the portal will open on July 1st. Oh, that's even 2026.

But the problem with that though, Mark, we don't even know who can't websites. Oh, yeah, right. And you better we better take screenshots. We better take screenshots of everything so they don't change it. But uh, you have to get a letter in the mail with your PIN number before you can do it online. And I'll tell you your pin. Your pin? Huh. There's uh, but you got that, and those are supposed to go out the last week of beginning the last week of June. I've not gotten anything. So again, I'm gonna play devil's advocate here as a CDL holder. As a CDL holder, I've been dealing with this for ten years or more that we've had to submit all of our documents every other year online. Well, the first time it was the first time it was very frustrating to figure out what we were doing. Once I figured it out, it wasn't bad after that. Okay and that program actually got an update too, so I got a letter that's got a PN number on it to do that.

I uh I don't know. I don't it's probably not you know 65 or whatever the average age of a farmer. Exactly.

And so we're gonna be asking a lot of people to do this that have no idea what they're that don't know how to do it.

But there's still a lot of grumpy old truckers out there that still want their dang log books that don't want to do it online either. So yeah. Um but I'll also argue too that this could be portal could be easier than having to actually make copies of all your paperwork and mail it to Frankfurt and then hope they mail it back like we did the first time. Yeah, I don't know. When this whole thing could have been fixed very easy by them working with the Department of Revenue and looking at Schedule F's and saying when we file our taxes, yeah, that guy's good, that guy's not, you know, or gal or whoever. It is the Department of Revenue, right? But they but they're not taking it off taxes. They're not they're not they've got a copy of the taxes that they can look at in their system, but they won't look at it. And the way all typical government program here, when this got started, this was brought us, it's always been an issue. And Daniel, you can go back to your time in in retail, and how many people did you have that that tried to abuse the tax you know system?

I mean you people who who have no business not having taxes taken out because their farm's not a it's a hobby farm. You know, they're not they're not using it to produce agricultural goods for sale or or whatever.

So and it on the it shouldn't be it shouldn't be on the retailer to decide if you're tax exempted. Absolutely. Absolutely. And and most of them, you know, if especially if you're going to TSC on a evening and there's you know some kid in there that has no idea what they're talking about, they're gonna be like oh yeah, sign that form. You don't have to pay taxes. Yeah, so it's not talking about that.

So this was modeled or the Farm Bureau and uh the legislators that started pushing this forward wanted to model this after Georgia. They had Georgia has a gate card, Georgia Agriculture Tax Exemption. It's literally a card you carry in your wallet. You fill this out. So they fill it out, you get this card, where it's good for five years, you show it at uh TSC or Fool King or you know, Nutrient or Helena or whatever, and they scan it, everything's good. All your data is backed up to it. Well, when it came to Kentucky, some of the powers to be said, oh, it costs too much to print a card for everybody. So instead, we're gonna email it to you, and you gotta print out a sheet. They don't email it. So or they've hard mailed it the first time. So then you get a letter that had your exemption number on it. And if your number's like mine, that's one of the early ones, you got 17 zeros ahead of a four-digit number. Uh-huh. And you got to take that in. Well, then you take that in, they say, Oh, well, you need to fill out this piece of paper too, which is the old tax exemption form. Well, no. And then it's we need to copy your driver's license too. No, you don't need all this. We got to do that. We've I've had two or three that want a copy of a driver's license. Like, you don't need all this. This first sheet should do it all. But everybody is so scared to get audited and pay the fine cost that they take all this stuff. So it's made a program that should have been super easy, ridiculously hard, and now you got to carry all this other paperwork around with you. What if it's not in the right truck? When I was at Ruil King the other day, mine's expired. I was in the wrong truck, didn't have it with me. So you don't uh you don't have to have the letter. They've finally gotten that straightened out, but some there's a few out there that still are convinced you have to have the letter because somebody at Frankfurt told them that sometime you have to have that letter and they can't let it go. But all you need is that number. That's all they have to have is that number. That's exactly right. And finally, I think what fixed that is somebody somebody finally wrote a letter to Department of Revenue or whoever was like, this is all you need. Stop asking these people for extra. And you should be able to, in theory, have a picture of that on your phone and just give them that number. Don't even have to have the the letter. That's all I have. I have given the idea of where my letter is. I lost it within a year of getting it.

There was one place that said they needed a hard copy of that or told me they needed a hard copy, or I wouldn't be tax exempt anymore, and I just stopped going there. And that may not have been the only reason I stopped going there, but as one of them and uh and I say, Yeah, I can go somewhere else then because I'm not I don't even know where that paper is. There's no telling where the thing is, but I know the number. Oh, we gotta see the original paper. Okay.

Anybody we do business with out of state that's any kind of online anything, you know, you go through if you've ever done the process of going through tax exempt on something that's online, it's basically they most of them have got some kind of an online portal, and all they ask for is the number and the and the state because that's all you need. And that's the thing, that's gonna be tied to it all. So in the future, if they ever got audited, they know where it's who it was. So then they can then they can track you down and and figure it out. So what's the purpose of having the number if you gotta have a physical copy of the letter? And you can add and you gotta have driver's license, number, and all that stuff to go with it anyway. Address and my picture of my letter is the letter folded up because that letter fits on a third of a sheet of paper. So you know how you fold a letter up in the mail. I just pulled it out of the envelope and took a picture of that. I had somebody deny me early on because they couldn't see the full letter. When everybody's letter says the exact same thing. The only thing difference is the address on the top and the number in the top right.

Probably did. So I'm gonna I I'm on the the mytaxes.kentucky.gov website, and we probably need to wrap up after this. But if Daniel gets this out at normal time and this comes out on Thursday morning, and you do happen to have your letter, wait until Friday to go try to sign up because this my taxes will be undergoing scheduled maintenance on Thursday, July 16th.
