A good martial artist does not become tense, but ready. Essentially, at this point the fight is over, so you pretty much flow with the goal. Who is worthy to be trusted with the secret to limitless power? I'm ready, but it happened. I wanted to talk about it because I learned some stuff about this. It's a more prevalent thing now, joe.
Speaker 1:Getting hacked Happens all the time. Bro, you're just a statistic, I'm just another number, really, and the reason why I want to bring it up it's great because I'm pretty consistent. My posting is very boring. It's either lifting weights, eating food, doing jujitsu or soda, or drinking soda or talking shit with you. Right, people know what I'm about, yeah, so when Posts came up and the funny thing is it was right when we were podcasting I literally my account got hacked. We're talking to that Motherfucker Greg Souders, yeah, hates himself. I liked it, but we love him. We love him, but he hates him. But it's a funny dichotomy. No, greg's G-souders ecological king.
Speaker 1:I had messages, people. I got like 20 messages, bro, your account's been hacked, you've been hacked. But what was great is my friends went into bat for me and they were like oh yeah, you think you're JT. Tell me the best exercise for glutes. Bro. Oh yeah, where'd you grow up? How many podcast episodes you done? What's your podcast? What's your postcode? Yeah, it was man.
Speaker 1:And the funny thing was I think they were screenshotting and send them to or joe, was um screenshotting them? Yeah, people were sending them to me. Like it became this like carnival sideshow thing. Like yo, bro, we're not gonna let some motherfucker get away with hacking jt. Like that, look at this. And they're like screenshot their conversation. And like one of them was like hey, jt, is your account been hacked? And then the response was no man, it's me or something. Yeah, and then he was like, yeah, bullshit cunt, what's the postcode of where you grew up? And then like left him on red. Oh man, it was fucking super funny. But then some people were like yo, is everything, is everything cool with JT? Like a couple of people Like cause, you know, cause the dude started, or the person, the bot, who fucking knows started posting the Mercedes and the crypto scams.
Speaker 1:Yeah, get into my crypto account. And it's always referencing oh, so grateful to some other account for fucking making me a millionaire. Yeah, yeah, amazing. Look, I'll be honest, friends, if I had 250 grand in my bank account and Mercedes-Benz, I wouldn't be posting it on Instagram. I'll tell you what I would never buy Mercedes-Benz anyway.
Speaker 1:But it's so interesting to me because I had always thought this is around personal security. I never do the two-factor authentication. Oh, that's boring, you know, I got like two passwords. You know you go, cause I, I struggled to remember my own passwords. I get locked out of my own account all the time.
Speaker 1:Um, so I was always thought to myself why would anyone want to steal my information or how is it valuable? Let me tell you how it started, cause I think I, I, I worked out how it happened. Friend of mine is an artist. I worked out how it happened. A friend of mine is an artist, a musical artist, fucking suspicious already. No, no, no, but he's you know, I know him through jujitsu. Nice guy, I won't name him, but I got a message from him which was like hey, bro, I've been nominated for this award on Spotify, would you vote for me? And I was like, oh, yeah, like, go on, you know, like same thing with us. Like we got a podcast. Sometimes I'll say to friends like, oh, would you share it? Or you know, but usually only in the context of talking about it.
Speaker 1:It was a bit out of the blue. So straight away I was like I don't know about this. But I was like, no, I like him, why not the link? And the link then takes me to something that looks like Spotify, but it's not Spotify. And straight away my defenses were up and it said put in your Spotify login details. I was like, nah, like what? I think it's my wife's account. I think I'm on a family plan anyway, I wouldn't know those details. But then it was like your name, date of birth, your email. I was like hang on a sec, no, I don't want to do this. I was like no, no, no, straight away I was like no. And then when I tried to like back out of it, it wouldn't let me and screen froze and I was like what's going on right now? And I was trying to like so you had typed some shit in. I hadn't typed anything in, right, I'd just been diverted to that down, try to cancel it out.
Speaker 1:You know when you get spam for casinos on porn websites and you're like, oh, they got me. Guys, I'm not going to be here for very long, I literally need 40 seconds. Give me 40 seconds. Steal all my information. But don't spam me. Just sell it to some black, you know, dark web organization.
Speaker 1:I've got a secret. You know what that secret is? It's this, my friends it's electrolytes. Now you might be drinking water and you're like, but it's not working. Look, the key to hydration is actually electrolytes. What are they? They are salts that keep the water in your muscles so you can use them when you're rolling. You know who's got electrolytes? Sodium, the sponsor of today's show, sodiicomau. This is the spot where you can get the most delicious drinking salts, the perfect blend of sodium, potassium and magnesium. And you know what? If you use the code bulletproof15, you get 15% off. That way, you can actually be hydrated, you can roll better and feel better. Get some today.
Speaker 1:No, anyway, long story short. I tried to get out. It wouldn't let me. I eventually had to like, restart my phone. We're golden. A day later, boom, they're in my account and they are sending people messages. They're posting stuff on my stories. They're not even using my best photos to put text across, as if I'd buy a white mercedes-benz. Come on, folks, get real with it.
Speaker 1:So what was great? Bulletproof kicking off man, yeah. The boys, yeah. How come you guys don't have your own. All our, all our american listeners are like, fuck yeah, business success for a couple entrepreneurs. Good on you guys. All our aussie friends are like look at these fucking tosses, wankers. The cultural perception is so different, but I've got to give a huge shout out to my wife, alexandra Juliana Tomlinson. Oh, wow, wow, there's pride in that. Very nice. Yes, yeah, it's a vet's go, but she went to bat for me. She went fucking full. Liam neeson bro.
Speaker 1:She used all of her adhd powers and medication to fucking lock in right on. She locked in. She's like you're not taking this very seriously and I'm like. I contacted meta. I said it's going to take a couple days. Jt, I can't take two hours out of today to make your lunch. I'm going to instead get you back in your instagram. Well, no, she was really concerned because I have fuck, okay, I have some bank cards associated with my meta account, because I've paid for advertising before. Yeah, for my other businesses, right, yeah, she's like they're gonna fucking steal all your money and I'm like, babe, it's not like that, like I don't think that's what's going on and uh, anyway, I had done very minimal efforts to get my account back.
Speaker 1:She was on the emails. She was two-factor authenticating. She was trying to get in the account resetting shit. He was blocking her, like it was. It was war, like a fucking trade war. All of us like, yeah, yeah, you want to tariff my shit? I'm a fuck you up.
Speaker 1:And she prevailed because she had the original device, like obviously, my phone. I could get a code on my number. Old mate couldn't do that. And she also had my iPad, which I'd logged into Instagram on there, just so you think it was connected to that Spotify scam link that you clicked on? Yes, and in what way? Like, do you think that they clicked the link? No, no, I don't know for sure. And for those of you out there who are more savvy and understanding of how people using bots and hackers work, the fact that I clicked the link that was, that was the fucking yeah. That's what got me yeah right on. So, yeah, I think it was.
Speaker 1:Just the thing is Someone needs to go and visit your musician mate. What a dog, poor fella. I mean, his account has clearly been hacked, right, and so I just think the tough thing is we are distracted, and Joey and I we've talked about this from a self-defense perspective. Like in Bruce Lee's books. He talks about awareness. He's like the first step Bruce Lee was obsessed, but he was always like scouting the room. You know, is that guy's neck thick? Could I break his neck? What's that guy's ankles like? Like where am I in the street? Like Bruce Lee was obsessed with anything could be a threat and he always felt that was the first step in self-defense, was awareness.
Speaker 1:And you know, joe and I've talked about this before where we're on our phones, people got the noise canceling earphones on. People aren't even fucking looking when they're crossing the road Like people's. We live in such a safe society, at least here in Australia, and you know, if you live in a first world Western society, you might take for granted that you're not necessarily going to get kidnapped or run over or whatever, whereas in other parts of the world that's more, more the threat. Well, bro, as far as the internet goes, I was walking around with noise-canceling earphones staring at my fucking phone, crossing the fucking highway, bro, and I got smashed. But do you know anyone who's been hacked, joe? Oh yeah, yeah, it's happened to a few people I know over the years. Uh, they always seem to come back from it, you know generally. But yeah, like, I had one mate who, like, had really built up quite a online, like a, like an account on instagram coaching, uh, snc for golfers, right, and I think he had like, like, he'd really put a lot of time into it over like 18, 24 months cultivated, and I think he was at like 20 000 and he's like, wow, like it was really kicking off.
Speaker 1:And then he got booted and then was like, and he was fucking spewing and then I think it took him about a week and he got back in right, and you know, in the end it wasn't anything right, kind of similar to yours, yes, but I think in the initial moment you're very vulnerable because you're like, oh my god, like you haven't. Even though, like your account, similar to my personal account, we don't put a huge amount of time and effort into them. No, you still put a minimal amount of effort for like a decade, yeah, just to maintain it. Yeah, and you got a lot of people that you talk to, contacts, messaging and so yeah. So when it's taken away, you're like, oh my god, fuck, like I wasn't ready for that. Um, yeah, it's, it's fucking really disruptive. It's crazy to think of the dependency we have on it because I I would say I use instagram probably too much for messaging like, whether it's jujitsu friends, workout friends, like you know. You see someone's story, hey, congratulations on that comp. You know, it's just like a social thing.
Speaker 1:Mate, I'm pretty fortunate. I have my jugo account and I also have uh, another account, uh, like just, and so I I was able to kind of mess people say, hey, I have been hacked. Really sorry, you're getting spammed with crypto nonsense, but please feel free to send the money directly to me. Let's just skip all that. I'll invest for you. So what I? I guess the reason why I want to have this chat is if you've been hacked and you've gone through this bullshit, you may not have a. An obsessive wife will go into bat for you to fix it for you. If that hadn't happened, I think this could have been a much more delayed process. Maybe I could have lost my account. But here is something which is kind of crazy, even though it was a relief that Ola did the thing. She's got a specific set of skills. She will find you and she will block you. She did amazing work, work, got my account back. I'm very grateful.
Speaker 1:I actually felt some interesting, weird sense of relief that I might completely lose my account. There was something about it, man. I was like maybe I would start again, maybe I wouldn't even you know what I mean like maybe I don't have to keep up this whole fucking treadmill of fucking social appearances of sorts. Yeah, maybe, yeah, like it was. There was a moment where I was like, well, if I lose it, fuck you know, I became a Buddhist in that moment. A Buddha, you might say. I gave it all away, my my small niche amount of friends and family circle. They wouldn't even know who I was anymore. Wow, I would have been reborn. But yet here we are. The cycle continues. Thank fucking God I'm back in the rat race.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, you know that fellow that's been in the media quite a bit Jonathan Haidt, I think, is his name done a lot of the studies around kids and social media use Okay, I don't, kids and kids and social media use, kids and devices, and has, you know, some very alarming sort of statistics and and, um, some interesting kind of insights on it all. One of the things he said there was a large group of, uh, school age, high school age kids who were surveyed about social media use. Yes, and I think, like unanimously, all of them, when asked, uh, would you like stop using social media, said no, right, um, follow-up question was what? Uh, what if nobody was allowed to use social media, so none of your friends had social media, would you be happy to also not use it? And unanimously, they said yes, right, and it's that same thing.
Speaker 1:Right, it's that fear of missing out. That's where everyone is. Yeah, it's like fuck you gotta, you gotta be there here, wherever you're seeing this. It's like the human need to fit in. Yeah, whereas, like, we all recognize that it is not good. No, yeah, and honestly, I mean, obviously you're this. You might be watching this on your mobile device or listening to this on your mobile device.
Speaker 1:The greatest challenge is, there is a lot of inherent benefit to being connected to this, the internet, but does the benefit outweigh the cost? And the actual thing is, we don't know what the cost is right now, other than, yeah, we struggle to connect in person and we are fucking distracted and we are vulnerable in a lot of ways. Uh, you know, and I mate, I, I it's definitely made me think I would. I need to just spend less time on Instagram. I shouldn't care this much about this thing.
Speaker 1:I've built a dependency Not as much as caffeine, but it's fucking close, which is very confronting, you know, and so many people, when they don't have their phone because it's broken or lost, people are actually just happier. They feel less stressed Probably the same thing as me. Like, if I have a few less coffees, I'm just, I'm calmer. There's just a thing where I don't feel as compelled to do anything, which is kind of it's a relief in a lot of ways. So, anyway, that's it, folks. I want to share it with you. Yeah, if you're getting hit by my account for crypto, it's not me and I've probably been hacked again, but hey, bitcoin's plunging.
Speaker 1:So now's the time to get in and just hold on. Bye, bye, bye. What is it? Do your own research. Yeah, d-y-o-r, d-y-o-r, h-o-d-l. Hold on for dear life. Yeah, all of that, all of that. That's a joke. By the way, this is not a financial podcast. Please Don't buy it. I mean, do whatever the fuck you want security details, but, um, thanks for making it this far, folks. We appreciate y'all. And, last but not least, please give us a like and a subscribe. It helps more good people like you get the good stuff like this shoo.
