Pinterest, it’s still a thing. Listen to this episode and find out how you can use it. Hi, it’s Alan Berg. Welcome back to another episode of the Wedding Business Solutions podcast. I am so happy to have Dana Barr on to talk to us about Pinterest. Dana, welcome.

Hi. Thank you for having me.

Well, thanks for joining and thanks for reaching out to me about this. Because timing wise, I mentioned to you in the email. I was in Ireland not that long ago, and at the conference I was speaking about, there was somebody from Pinterest there, and I kind of posed the same question to him because I was like, is Pinterest still a thing? Everybody talks about TikTok and Instagram and all, but apparently it’s a big thing when it comes to inspiration for weddings and events. So how did you become a Pinterest expert?

I will happily say I blame Jenna Kutcher.

Okay.

For this. So when I launched my business, I pivoted from being a wedding planner to supporting wedding pros at the height of the pandemic. Because at the time, I was a single mom of three. And so finding childcare for three children to go do a wedding was way more stressful, in my opinion and personal experience, than going to do the wedding itself and figuring out the nuances of are we close to each other, are we not close to each other, how are we making this happen. So I pivoted very quickly to supporting those that were able to stay in the industry, had that support system to watch kids, family, and anything else.

I just started as like a business manager. I know what they needed to run. I know how to create a timeline and took a lot off their plate so that they could focus on the very important things of how are we getting married today or tomorrow or next week. And it was in that process that I noticed a gap of leads.

Because wedding shows did not go virtual. A lot of things did. Events went virtual. But wedding shows were not one of those things that I was seeing. So overnight, filling up their pipeline of qualified leads and bookings for the upcoming year, gone. So I turned to where are couples hanging out. Let’s meet them where they are. They’re on Pinterest. They’re planning.

They’re looking into trends and details and aesthetics and building out their day. So I started looking on how to make that work for my clients specifically. And I found Jenna Kutcher’s webinar on Pinterest and how she uses it in her business. And I was sold. I was like, all right, perfect. This is what we’re doing. This is what’s going to set you apart from everyone else still trying to battle it out on Instagram.

Instagram is a great platform, but it is for I’m already at a wedding, I’m already doing these things, or I was at a wedding, not I’m planning a wedding. Pinterest is where they go. So I use that knowledge to build services and packages and support designed for creating leads, but utilizing a Pinterest-led foundation.

Okay, so that’s a great point that a lot of the people that are on Instagram are posting things that have already happened, right. Which is of course inspiration for the next person still, because you’re looking to see what’s being done. But Pinterest really, I guess technically people are posting things that have happened, but you’re saying that it’s more of a place to go for that inspiration as you’re planning. It’s more of a collective of that.

Yes. So Pinterest is a platform full of research-backed insights. They have all their trend reports and things, and that’s the difference in the users. People that are on social media will use Instagram. They’re not planning something by being on that platform. They’re there to socialize, to connect, to see what someone is currently doing.

Pinterest people go to plan. That’s where the planners hang out. Whether it’s a wedding, a baby shower, a corporate event, they’re planning their next phase and they’re doing it with boards and content coming from Pinterest.

Yeah, I can see that now with the focus. That makes it a lot clearer for me because someone who’s not planning something right now, although I will be invited to a baby shower soon. They just had the reveal and I thanked them for not blowing anything up. They gave an envelope with the sex to their favorite cupcake shop, who then gave them back cupcakes. When they opened them, they found blue filling inside, so they knew it was a boy.

Yay. I love that one.

Yes, that was very nice. They texted us a picture of the inside of the cupcake and said, your grandson says hi. But again, I see that inspiration piece. It’s so focused. If I wanted to find wedding flowers, it’s everything right there, as opposed to the noise of Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. Dancing cats and whatever else is going on. It’s much more focused.

So what’s the data in terms of how much time people are spending on Pinterest?

Time-wise, I actually haven’t looked. I know I spend a lot of time. But the volume is huge. There are billions of active sessions on a monthly basis.

So wait, there’s billions? That has to be sessions, because there’s only 300-something million people in the United States.

Yes, sessions.

Okay.

But at any given point, there are that many people coming onto the platform and pinning, sharing, doing something. They’re creating something for the next phase of life.

Got it. So what’s some of the insight for weddings that Pinterest can give you? And is this available to anybody?

Yes. I put together a Pinterest trends report going into 2026 to help guide wedding planners and professionals with their content and give it a longer shelf life. Each trend is drawn from behavior and real-world demand.

One big thing I’m seeing is couples are planning earlier, dreaming bigger, and wanting a cohesive story. Wedding weekends are growing. It’s less about color palettes alone and more about telling the couple’s story and creating a one-of-a-kind guest experience. It’s not just the bride anymore. It’s the couple.

Okay. That means my son and daughter-in-law were ahead of the curve with their three days. They didn’t save money. They just did it differently.

Yes.

I also saw the Pantone color of the year is Cloud White.

Yes.

That sounds like the absence of a color palette.

I’ve seen good and bad reactions, but it’s just one part of the story. Cloud White blends with a variety of palettes. It’s about tying it into the full story.

One complaint I’ve heard is couples see something on Pinterest that they can’t afford.

Yes.

Is there any way for someone planning to get a better idea, or is it just the picture?

I think the picture is the picture. But text overlays and educational resources help. Showing how to achieve aesthetics on different budgets sets expectations and shows why professionals matter.

That’s the key. Inspiration boards are inspiration to bring to professionals and say, I like this. How can we do something like it?

Exactly.

For wedding professionals not using Pinterest, what are best practices?

Pinterest isn’t a marketing platform. It’s a search engine and a window into intent. Visibility is about timing, not volume. Use your best content at the right time.

Does this make sense for DJs?

Yes.

Explain that.

At minimum, it helps visibility and SEO. Pins create backlinks to your website, which helps search rankings.

What about repurposing Instagram content?

I’m a queen of repurposing. Content disappears quickly on Instagram. Pinterest gives it a longer shelf life.

How much can be automated?

You can batch schedule weekly. Instagram can auto-pull into Pinterest, but captions aren’t optimized. Pinterest’s native scheduler or tools like Tailwind work well.

What’s different about Pinterest content?

Keywords and SEO. Pin titles and descriptions in natural language. Everything has a link, and Pinterest loves that.

What about AI search?

AI tools crawl your website, not Pinterest. So Pinterest drives traffic, but your website must be optimized.

That fits with putting good content on your website first.

Absolutely.

Quick best practices. Business account?

Yes, business accounts are free. You get analytics and trends.

What else strengthens the account?

Optimize your profile and boards with keyword-focused descriptions. Start with one or two pins a day. Use your existing best content.

Even older content?

If it aligns with your audience, yes.

Paragraphs or hashtags?

Natural language. No hashtags.

Accessibility?

Pinterest supports alt text. Same goes for image metadata on your website.

So what do you do to help people?

I offer a visibility audit focused on evergreen, intentional visibility and leads. It helps professionals make confident growth decisions. I’ve booked clients without discovery calls using this method.

Do you offer DIY and done-for-you?

Yes.

Where can people find you?

My website is ddvirtualmanagement.com. Instagram is danas.desk.nc.
