Jeremy Frisk

"Many people are good at recognizing; most people stink at then articulating what they recognize. The other side doesn't know you understand them unless you actually verbalize it."

On this episode, I am joined by Derek Gaunt, expert coach at The Black Swan Group who has 29 years of experience in law enforcement, most of which was spent as a hostage negotiator. He’s also a speaker, instructor, and the author of Ego, Authority, Failure.

This show contains tactical, applicable methods to be better at having difficult conversations and saying “no.” He shares real stories and experiences of mirroring, labeling, dynamic silence, and the accusations audit. We end the episode with a 15 minutes exercise where I play the role of a demanding boss and he shows us how to ask for a raise using the methods that he teaches. You’ll quickly see how adept he is at negotiating, and you’ll also see a very humbled Jeremy emerging on the other side.
