PART ONE - Gary Michael Heidnik (1943–1999) was an American serial rapist, kidnapper, and murderer who became notorious for his brutal crimes in Philadelphia. Between 1986 and 1987, he abducted six women—torturing and sexually abusing them while keeping them captive in a pit he dug in his basement. Two of the women died as a result of his horrific acts, which included electrocution, dismemberment, and other extreme forms of violence. His crimes were so shocking that they partly inspired the character Buffalo Bill in "The Silence of the Lambs." Convicted on multiple counts of murder, kidnapping, and rape, Heidnik was sentenced to death and executed by lethal injection in 1999, becoming the last person executed in Pennsylvania.
