22% of a pro draft tied back to one week, one trip, and a whole lot of behind-the-scenes work, and that’s where our minds go first: what does consistency actually look like when the schedule is chaos? We’re fresh off the Canadian Open and the PWHL draft, and we use that momentum to talk about the habits that make performance repeatable, whether you’re an athlete, a weekend golfer, or building something long term.

Heidi Cannon joins us for a wide-ranging hang that somehow makes perfect sense: the killer golf putter that instantly earned its spot in the bag, the birdie juice and fairways culture that keeps golf fun, and the dream of taking the whole vibe to Korea and beyond. We also get into the human side, from dancing at a Canada match during a 6 to 0 win to the kind of life stories you only get by saying yes, including her time living in Australia and the meter maid job that still sounds unreal.

Then we lock back into the high performance mindset: competition prep, posing practice, training blocks, and why golf can be the ideal low impact outlet when you’re dieting and managing recovery. We unpack the most underrated tools for progress: daily reps, delayed gratification, and writing things down so you can actually execute. You’ll also hear our take on practicing a little every day, from putting to supplements like creatine and protein, and why simple routines are the real advantage.

If you like conversations about golf fitness, athlete habits, consistency, and building confidence through practice, you’ll feel right at home here. Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs a push to stay on track, and leave a review with the daily habit you never skip.

SPEAKER_00

Why We Tell Athlete Stories

SPEAKER_00

champions. This is the athletes podcast, where high performance individuals share their triumphs, defeats, and life lessons to educate, entertain, and inspire the next generation of athletes.

Canadian Open And Draft Results

SPEAKER_00

Here we go. We just got back from Detroit, Toronto, where we were Canadian Open for four days, and then obviously the PWHL draft for three days, where we had 16 athletes go 22% of the overall draft, which is absolutely absurd. What? Probably. Yeah, yeah. 22% of the draft was our Cook Park Management Athletes, which is absolutely crazy. That is awesome. And then another like half dozen that are going to camps. So yeah, phenomenal week, but obviously had to push this a week. But it meant we got to showcase Chirpy. We got to showcase killer golf at the Canadian Open, which was a ton of fun. I maybe also should let people know

The Putter That Won Cash

SPEAKER_00

that I was able to win some cash with that killer golf putter.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, baby. So what did you what did you use on it? Did you use the EQ? Did you use the anchor? Like what which one did you use?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I kept the long anchor on the one that we had.

SPEAKER_01

The 150?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah. And it man, I I haven't putted that well in a while. So Cal knows now that that's what we're gonna be using full time.

SPEAKER_01

That's awesome. And it looks the nicest. Come on, you got the gold.

SPEAKER_00

Like it does. It does. It adds a little color to my bag. You know, we need that. We got the chirpy head cover now, obviously in line with the birdie juice. Yeah. And yeah, the killer golf putter looks nice in there. And we're gonna have to have to get that all across the world at this point now.

SPEAKER_01

100%. That's what we're trying. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

If Cal and I continue making birdies the way we were, there's no doubt we're we're gonna end up consuming a lot of birdie juice.

SPEAKER_01

Did he try it too? Did he try the putter?

SPEAKER_00

He did, yeah, yeah, he did. He loved it. I again I took off some adjustments. He likes more of a blade format for his phone.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But yeah, he was a fan too. He uses a Scotty, so obviously he's used to some of the best. And he was impressed. So yeah, we uh big weeds.

SPEAKER_01

You gotta send me some photos of that, by the way. You have to send me some of the photos.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, we so we have a ton of content. John V was filming the entire experience, and uh we're we're gonna get a little montage video together with Luca the Caddy, who's who we played with and his buddy Michael. So shout out to them. It was a great time. Four of us uh got out on Bushwood. Great track, you know, made some cash. No, it was a ton of fun. So I was buzzing after our backyard golf conversation. So yeah, yeah, yeah. Given the putter and thinking about hey, how are we gonna use this at Canadian Open? How are we gonna continue to highlight what you guys are doing, what we're doing with birdie juice, fairway, and obviously long-term goal get over to Korea, have some fun over in Asia because they love to consume their birdie juice over here.

SPEAKER_01

They do, they love uh well soji, but yes, it's yeah, they do love and they mix it with beer. That's what I always find so awesome.

SPEAKER_00

Soji shot and beer, right?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, they mix it together and then you drink it. I don't know, but so soju, soju, I'm saying it wrong. Soju is very, it's like almost like flavorless, like it doesn't taste like anything crazy. So I think that's how they can get away with mixing it with beer, but it I found that wild. I was like, I've never mixed beer and a hard liquor before, but yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they get after it. Uh, you're not doing a heck of a lot after you're around a golf, put it that way.

SPEAKER_01

No, you're not. You're not, no. But I'm glad you liked it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, is I I'm I'm hooked. I anytime I make money using a new club, that club is now staying in the bad.

SPEAKER_01

That is the new favorite, right?

SPEAKER_00

As a uh as a hockey goalie, I am fully capable of admitting that I am slightly superstitious.

SPEAKER_01

Slightly superstitious wearing the same socks.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, no, no. That can get smelly. That's uh that's that I know I never understood that.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, is that actually a thing? But yeah, it's no, none of that.

FIFA Dancing And Golf Culture

SPEAKER_00

But but I am I am interested and curious to hear how dancing at that FIFA World Cup game was six-nothing, no big deal. Obviously, because the fans were all fired up seeing you and the squad getting out there dancing. Uh, tell me about that experience.

SPEAKER_01

It was unreal. I mean, we were so lucky that we got to be there for the actual Qatar Canada game when they went 6-0. I didn't even I'm not a soccer fan. I'll openly admit it, I'm hockey and football. And when that was like that's like a huge thing that they even won that's never been done in Canada before to win a World Cup. So to be there and like in that environment. And it was, you couldn't help but be a proud Canadian. Like it was crazy when they were singing the anthem, and everyone, everyone in the whole building was standing up and it was all red. You're just like, oh, it was like it was unbelievable. So so much fun. It was so, I don't say stressful of a day, but like we had two different shows, actually, three different shows. So we were like one end of the city to the other, running our way in our costumes with our cover-ups. It was crazy, but it was fun. It was I thought I was gonna be retiring from dance this year, but obviously that's not not the case. So I don't know. It's you never know where where life takes you. That's all I have to say.

SPEAKER_00

It's a woman who wears many hats. Is that a golf gods hat too? If I see it, of course it is. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

My golf gods. I love my golf god stuff. It's so cute and so fun. They're so politically incorrect or whatever, but they're funny.

SPEAKER_00

I think that's what m that that's what people love about them, right?

SPEAKER_01

Yes, yes.

SPEAKER_00

There's there's a lot of people who are super politically correct this day and age, myself included, you know, at times almost too much. I'm Switzerland in this case, a lot of the time, where don't pick a side, which is not necessarily conducive for getting a eliciting reaction from people or getting them to feel some kind of way about you. But golf gods definitely does that.

SPEAKER_01

It's pretty goofy and funny. And I mean, you just take they're Aussies, they're Aussies. They Aussies are hilarious people, like they don't mean any harm. They just they're just they push the limit, so it's funny. That's all.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they're trying out.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah, no.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and Aussies also know how to consume their birdie juice in fairways, hey.

SPEAKER_01

They definitely do. I've seen that firsthand myself, and it's kind of scary. I used to live there, so I I've seen it, yeah, been around it there

Australia Stories And Meter Maid

SPEAKER_01

crazy.

SPEAKER_00

How long did you spend in Australia?

SPEAKER_01

I was there for almost two years. I was I'm gonna date myself. I was a meter maid. You have no idea what this is, but a meter maid back in the day, I don't even think they have them anymore. You'd walk around in a bikini, okay, with a little sash, and you'd plug the meter. So you make sure it was like a nice thing to do in the Gold Coast. Yeah. And they were known for like these chicks walk around in bikinis plugging meters. I did that way back in the day.

SPEAKER_00

Hold on. You would walk around and fill people's meters for their car so that they didn't get a ticket.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. And how would it be an absolute thing back in the day? Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Out of the goodness of your heart, like well, not me, like the I was hired to do that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That that was a job.

SPEAKER_01

By the city. That's like their little like, oh, it's a MetaMate in in Australia in Surfers Paradise. Yeah, legit.

SPEAKER_00

So you didn't actually have to pay for parking anywhere you went. The meter maids would take care of that for you.

SPEAKER_01

If they yeah, if you were on shift and they were just like walking around, yeah. This goes back a long time.

SPEAKER_00

So So this is for employees. This isn't just for random tourists traveling to Australia.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, random to whoever was there. It was just, yeah. Really? It's just like a little like key cheap. I don't think they have them anymore. I'm pretty sure they don't have them anymore.

SPEAKER_00

But I'm going, okay, dang.

SPEAKER_01

We're going back. Okay. We're going back.

SPEAKER_00

I'm I'm going to the bylaw city center today, and I'm gonna say, hey, my meter maid. Yeah, I got a hundred and seventy dollar ticket here for bargaining. Where's my meter maid when I need her?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, right. That was good.

SPEAKER_00

That's hilarious. That's funny. Where well where else have you lived? Because you're you've you're A Z. What else?

SPEAKER_01

No, that like Australia was my main one, and then Edmonton, that's not very exciting. But I grew up on the island. Oh, is oh yeah, okay. Well, I do it's a good place, but yeah, and then the island, you know, with Derek. Derek Orr.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. Have you been to his new site yet? His new setup?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I have, yeah, yeah. And was there when it wasn't fully done yet, so it should be done.

SPEAKER_00

Shout out to Derek Orr. I think we did it on the last pod, but we need to get over to his facility. Yes, Ironwood. Absolutely incredible setup.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, he's such a he's a good, good, good guy, good golfer, all of it, right?

Golf Road Trips And Korea Plans

SPEAKER_00

Great golfer. We he was our day two of the long drive tour, and we played Bear Mountain with him. Uh just favorite course, home track. And then we had such a good connection with Derek, we stayed in touch over the next two weeks. It was like day 14, 15 of the tour. Like, yo, we need another body out in Cabot. So he flew from the West Coast. He's never played Cabot all the way. What? I didn't know that. Nova Scotia joined us for a couple days, stay in play.

SPEAKER_01

He did tell me that. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Cabot was incredible, super cool.

SPEAKER_01

Both and that was with Matt, right? Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That was with Cal.

SPEAKER_01

Cal, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So Cal and myself did the entire tour from Tefino all the way to Nova Scotia.

SPEAKER_01

That's so when are we doing another one of those? I want to come.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We're working on it. We're working on it. We we want to do the the Asian tour over in Korea. So that's can she killer golf?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That's the next one. Uh I don't know if we're gonna be able to drive there, but that'll be the next long drive tour in air quota.

SPEAKER_01

You can uh we're doing a on the I I forget the day in September, I'll let you know, but we're doing a tournament over in Korea, which is exciting. Because we just got another PGA player as well, an LPGA player. So we have two LPGAs. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Congratulations.

SPEAKER_01

Min Min Yun Lee. I'm saying that wrong, so I don't want to say that.

SPEAKER_00

We'll throw her face up on the screen here. I'm sure she's absolutely killing it with her new killer golf putter.

SPEAKER_01

She's gonna be using it this weekend.

SPEAKER_00

So let's go Thursday.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Do you know where the tournament is?

SPEAKER_01

Um, it's Hazel, is it Hazelmere? Hazel. I'm so bad with that word. You're in Minnesota. No, in Minnesota. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I was gonna say Hazelmere. Shout out to them. The old west was golf.

SPEAKER_01

You're like, wait, shout out, shout out.

SPEAKER_00

We uh yeah, we're working on getting fairways and birdie juice in there, but if you're listening, let us know. Hit us up.

SPEAKER_01

Hit us up.

SPEAKER_00

I do have to ask

Competition Prep And Staying Sharp

SPEAKER_00

though. You said you thought you were done with dancing. You also have a competition coming up in a few months, hence why you couldn't consume any a month. In a month, a few weeks now, I guess. Yeah, hence why you couldn't consume any birdie juice. I know we're gonna get you a bottle to celebrate after the show. Yes, but I do have to ask yeah after the win. I love that. That's the right mentality to have. What's the what's what's the next four weeks look like for you? How are you handling it? How are you preparing? What is the microcoat?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. The next four weeks is literally just eat, sleep, train, pose, do a lot of posing. I have posing clients too. So doing that and then golf. Like I've I've missed with dancing so much, I've I've missed like going out and golfing. So we we went out last Friday to Golden Eagle. I love Gold Eagle, it's like my season wildlife too.

SPEAKER_00

Great track.

SPEAKER_01

We had bears, yeah. There was a mama and a little baby. Yeah, I love that track. So yeah, that's I just want to golf, to be honest. I just don't want to golf. And like my poor husband went last night and it you know how hot it was. It was like 30. He was just hooked when he came home. His face was like peep, right? He's like, it was a good game, but I'm so tired. I'm like, yeah, yeah, like I'm like, I like to golf like 25. That's like perfect.

SPEAKER_00

We call those fair weather golfers. Yeah, I know, I know conditions for those. The uh it I I was thinking about it though, golf is probably a decent sport to be able to play while you're still training, dieting.

SPEAKER_01

That is the only sport you can play because you can it's so low impact in a lot of ways, right? And like you can, yeah, I I it's so easy. It's not easy, but you know what I'm saying.

SPEAKER_00

Like it's not you're spending five hours, you're distracted, you're mentally stimulated, you're walking, you're still moving, you're burning cows. For me, the only difficulty would be avoiding having a couple beverages on the course because I like to do that one at all.

SPEAKER_01

You're like, yes, no, I'm with you on that. But aside from that, and you get outside, yeah, you get some cardio in there. Yeah, you get the vitamin. But I I I'm a true believer, and I have something that's big that's coming out in September, I was told. Knock on wood with killer golf. A big cover, which is awesome. But it's gonna it incorporates fitness, it's fitness and golf together, which is huge. Like that's we know like fitness and golf is such a big thing in the industry, right? Like, there's been so much inundatedness of like you get your flexibility, get your car to get this up, right? With being, you know, good at golf and everything else. So yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, that's basically this show at right now at this point. You know, we're uh we're uh 290 episodes, we're highlighting fitness, health trainers, coaches, nutritionists, anyone in the health, fitness, wellness space. Yes, you know, we've leaned heavily into golf over the past few months, obviously, with the absolute parabolic nature that golf has taken off, as well as the fact that I'm interested. And you love it, yeah. There's golf brands out there that want to work with us, so you know, we gotta we gotta label it in. And also a lot of athletes play golf on the side, or they know so many golf wanna be involved, like every single like hockey player I know, right?

SPEAKER_01

They all love it, and it's like it's so adaptable to it, right? And yeah, it's I did you see the thing about Kevin Hart? Like, I love Kevin Hart, but he's like wildly obsessed with golf now, like has it on his yacht on the back, he has like a big driving range back there. I was like, what the hell? I want that, but it's cool how you see like everyone's getting into it, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, from a selfish standpoint, I'm glad I started playing golf at a young age, and I'm glad that I've continued playing it because I want to be able to, you know, go to Kevin Hart's yacht at some point here over the next decade, play him in around the golf and beat him. And then you know, we'll have a good couple chuckles after. Yeah, I'm sure he'll have some good one-liners to to talk about it. But even LeBron, right? You look at every athlete, everyone's been bit by the golf bug. So obviously that's why we're leaning into it with the brands, but even though it's a good thing.

SPEAKER_01

And I feel like too, like you're like me as well. Like, if you're an athlete, like consistency, that's the only way you're gonna get better. And I I've got girlfriends like, oh, I want to get into it. I'm like, okay, great. I'm excited for you, but like, how do you want to get into it and get good at it, or do you want to just play here and there? Like, that's fine too. But you can't get frustrated if you're not getting better, if you're only playing twice a month or something like that. You know, like you have to be driving around your like you have to be consistent, right? Just like I say that with my clients of working out or whatever it is.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I was gonna say golf is one of those sports. It's like working out, it's like taking your protein powder, it's like taking your creatine, it's like taking your amino acid, it's like those essential things that you need to do in your daily life to

Practice Daily And Keep It Simple

SPEAKER_00

see success. The same thing you would need to see in sports success. You need to be practicing every day, you need to promote putting yourself in those positions. Yes. I obviously am not able to get out on the golf course every day, but I am able to take my creatine and my protein every day thanks to Perfect Sports. I also use the code AP15, I can save 15% thanks to that amazing promo code. But I look at it now and I'm like, hey, I want to bring out my killer golf putter and hit a couple putts every day. Because even then, I'm still making sure that I've got my stroke down and I feel good, confident over top of that ball. Again, same thing as every other aspect in life where if you practice, you're probably gonna get better over time.

SPEAKER_01

100%. That's it.

SPEAKER_00

You know, we we preach that. Obviously, we're preaching like choir, you and I here, but for those listening, I would love to hear what's something that you do every single day, no matter what, under any circumstances, whether it's a five, ten-minute walk, run, whether you pet your dog, Chewbacca, or whether you are sitting on the couch at eight o'clock with your partner enjoying a glass of wine. I love learning about people's habits, routines, things that allow them to see success or do with illness in their life. Yeah, that's one thing over the past six years for me. I've been able to kind of pull tidbits that people do during their daily lives to see success. And like selfishly, I I try and absorb what I can and soak it up.

SPEAKER_01

No, that's I've always been the same way. And like I've I always have the mentality of like you've got one mouth and two ears for a reason. Like, listen to what others do and you know, recycle and repeat on some of it, right? Like, there's a lot of people, very successful people, and the only thing is just they've been consistent or they don't give up or they have a vision or whatever it is, right? And I think that in especially in our day and age with like social media and everything else, everyone wants instant, but it's like, nah, it doesn't happen that way, you know.

SPEAKER_00

The old delayed gratification ain't as popular as it once was. No, you and I talked about it, even like you know, over the past half decade, the difference in brands that are willing to send product to try, use, promote. Yes, they gotta recognize the fact that you're gonna be here for longer than you know three weeks, right? And like us who've been here doing it for decades. You know, yeah, yeah, they know you're gonna still be here tomorrow and you're still gonna be doing a job and they know what you represent. So yeah, it's uh it's always fun being able to chat with you, Heidi. This is like technically the third combo separately with golf thanks to Jared. We had the backyard golf also thanks to Jared and the team. Yeah. Finally, actually doing a sit-down here for a couple minutes. I always like to ask our guests like, is there pieces of advice, is there snippets that you've gathered over the years that you want to share with our listeners here today as we compile these kind of episodes? We highlight the killer golf putter. We want to also hear your insights that come from your mind, not just your great golf swing.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm trying. I want my golf swing to get a lot better. I think just the basics really is just like I just what we talked about, the consistency. That's it. That's all I want to. If I can get across that to anybody, that just take one day at a time, whether if you're starting a new meal plan, whether you're starting golf, whatever that may be, just one day at a time. And if you fall off the wagon, then get back on. Like it's not, you know, rocket science, it's just staying consistent with whatever that is. And I love, I don't know about you, but I'm old school. I write everything down. Like you were on my day today, you know, like I write it down and then I check it off. So something about that helps me feel gratified, like, oh, I I got that done, you know. So I think it's just finding ways to keep yourself, you know, on track and everything else.

SPEAKER_00

Crazy momentum can be built with a simple pen and paper checking off that list.

Journaling Tips And Farewell

SPEAKER_00

I I saw a quick video here. I know you have a hard stop. I saw a quick video about Claude running through doing one thing out of all of its knowledge internal that you could benefit, every human could benefit from. And it was journaling, it was capturing your thoughts, writing them down pen to paper, and then actually executing on what you've written down. And yeah, put that perfectly here, Heidi Cannon. I can't thank you enough uh for all your wisdom. I'm sure it's not the last time we get you on the show. We're gonna get distorted with some CSM products. You already got the Nova perfume. Shout out to Bird Juice. Yeah, I love that. Shout out to Bird Juice for all.

SPEAKER_01

Bird Juice is gonna sponsor me once I'm done. Yes, 100%. Because me and Hubs are gonna do a very un on golf on everything related, but we're doing a big Harley ride. We we both have Harleys, right? So I told you this. So we're gonna go ride. Not that drinking and riding doesn't know what I'm getting at.

SPEAKER_00

You'll you'll have uh birdie juice to celebrate with post ride.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. There you there, that's what I'm looking at.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I love it. Heidi, thanks so much. I appreciate your time. Love you, bud. Thank you folks for tuning in. We'll see you next week for another new episode. Peace.

SPEAKER_01

Bye soon. Bye.
