Dr. Grossman’s Integrative Background

SPEAKER_00

Hi, I'm Dr. Mark Grossman, integrative medical optometrist, acupuncturist, in practice for over 45 years, and author of five books on natural eye care.

Coleus And Forskolin Explained

SPEAKER_00

And today's podcast is on an Ayurvedic herve that is a beautiful perennial plant, especially if you go to the garden center where I was yesterday, called colius for scoli. It's gorgeous. It has been traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine for its various health benefits. One of the potential uses of coleus is to improve vision and treat specific eye conditions. But are there scientific evidence to support this? The main active compound in coleus is forescolin, which has been found to have a wide range of pharmacological effects. Some research suggests that forin may have vasodilating properties, meaning that it can widen blood vessels and increase blood flow. Increased blood flow to the eyes can potentially improve vision.

Evidence On Glaucoma Eye Pressure

SPEAKER_00

A study published in the Journal of Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics investigated the effects of foroscolin on intraocular pressure in healthy human subjects. Intraocular pressure is the fluid inside the eye, and high intraocular pressure is a major risk factor for glaucoma. The results of this study showed that for Sculin significantly reduced IOP intraocular pressure in the subjects, suggesting that it may have potential as a treatment for glaucoma even with medication or drops. Why not do both? That's what I recommend to people. Another study published in the Journal of Oculopharmacology examined the effects of a topical for skolin eye drop on patients with open-angle glaucoma. The results here also showed a significant reduction in eye pressure after treatment with the forescolen eye drops, indicating that it could also be used with regular medication for glaucoma. While these studies provide some evidence of the potential effects of coleus for improving vision and treating glaucoma, more research is needed to fully understand its effects and to determine the optimal dosage and treatment regimen. It's worth noting that coleus or frasculin alone may not be enough to fully treat or manage eye conditions. You need to do these integrative medicine therapeutic techniques along with what your doctor recommends. Do not just do this instead.

Dry Eye Results And Real Limits

SPEAKER_00

In addition to glaucoma, coleus has benefits for other eye conditions. For example, a study published in the Journal of Ophthalmology investigated the effects of forescolin on dry eye disease. The results showed that forescolin eye drops improved the signs and symptoms of dry eye. Overall, while coleus and its active compound forescolin show some potential for improving vision, we still need to do more research on this. Also, forescolin can lower your blood pressure, so if you have low blood pressure, be careful if you take forescolin. Further research is needed to understand the effects of coleus. Coleus is a plant native to India and other parts of Southeast Asia. It has been used for centuries to improve eye health. While coleus shows improvement for certain eye conditions, we must realize that

Side Effects Safety And Medication Risks

SPEAKER_00

there could be some side effects. Let's talk about that. Some individuals may be allergic to the coleus. So if you experience symptoms such as rash, itching or swelling, discontinue. It may interact with medications, particularly those that affect blood pressure and blood clotting. So if you're taking any medication, talk to your doctor. Remember, I said it could lower your blood pressure. Gastrointestinal side effects. Very few people may get stomach cramps, diarrhea, or nausea by taking the coleus supplements. Though they're mild and temporary, you want to watch out for them. I really haven't seen that much in any of the patients I've recommended for it.
