I love this poem by Marianne Williamson. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves who am I to be? Brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous. Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. You're playing. Small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone, and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. We are liberated from our own fear. Our fear, our present, automatically liberates others.

Five months after my head injury, I went on a brainwave healing. This was a five-day solo treatment where my guide told me that this poem was key to my healing. It took me a really long time to understand what she was telling me, and even ten years later, I find myself layering down deeper into the depths of this power. It's been several years since I first wrote the following blog post and there is a constant lesson in it for me. Each time I decide to face my fear of deep water, life makes profound shifts. My choice is to take small actions into my fears, and it always leads to profound openings of my embodied spiritual power in the months after the initial water-based action. And so, in sharing this old story, I want to highlight that for each of us we have a physical fear, and when we step into facing and taking courageous action towards our physical fear, it makes huge shifts at a spiritual level and you can become deeper and more intertwined with the joy of your life. Since arriving in Greece, I have reminders of my route to face my fears, that I have transformed my deep joy for life.

Speaker 1:

Vasileke, even before my accident, was somewhere I overcame one of my deepest fears Deep water. One morning, as I cycled with a client, she told me that her major fear was of heights, which transferred into deep water. She even feared stand-up paddle boarding. I reassured her that Vasileke was where I had first faced my deep fear of deep water and I'd felt comfortable falling into the water. The water here was so clear and the bay feels so safe between the mountains, like they're watching over and protecting everyone. Over the weeks, more clients mentioned to me about their fears and that Vasileke made them feel safe to overcome them. Here in Vasileke, I notice specific aspects of my theorise something deep and profound, if you want to stop and feel the wind in the silence.

Speaker 1:

Setting sail. An intention of this summer, in 2018, was to learn to sail. It was not approached as a fear, as I had no understanding of what sailing really involved or might bring up for me. I just knew I was eager to learn a new skill on the water. My first trip out on the Catamaran Hoobie Cat Pacific was not quite what I expected Instant instructions of pulling various ropes, rolling around on the trampoline to change sides and then clip your harness and hang out the side of the boat. Before I knew what was happening. I was trapezing which is hanging off the side of the Catamaran as it moves at speed and gently lifts the hull to skim the water. Then I realised that I'm smiling, and I mean really, really smiling. It was so much fun and I'm peacefully enjoying the wind across my body and the sensation of water splashing up against me from the hull and this amazing open view of the bay. I'm enjoying an activity that is high speed on deep water. That's two of my major fears, and yet I feel free and full of joy. So what is it with the speed of life?

Speaker 1:

I recall that when I was 30, being asked if my life was where I expected it to be, and I was surprised at how much I had done beyond my own expectations. However, I often felt manic, ungrounded, and I struggled with panic attacks. The achievements were a speed that I could not manage to maintain with a grounded and peaceful sense of self. This created a fear in the success and joy of my life. We believe that anything good in life will all go wrong, that there had to be a price to be paid for my happiness, and this was a former self-sabotage that destroyed many wonderful things in my life.

Speaker 1:

In yoga, we often talk about seeds and trees, and we do also with shamanic teachings. A tree must have strong foundations to withstand the elements around it, and we humans are no different. We must stay tall at each challenge, that is for good and bad. When things go well, we must embrace the moment of unfolding joy to relish them fully, and often we hear that we must be strong and withstand the negative, but less about what we are supposed to do when something good happens? How do we manage the speed of great things?

Speaker 1:

Well, momentum showed up to be a great fear, that being one of the great fear to live a joyful life. So as I had begun to blossom, I realised that it was allowing my light to shine. That was scary, and yet, through being grounded and connected to the earth, we can blossom without fear. Knowing the value of the connection to yourself, others and the universe is key to shining bright. In modern life, we can seek success through shining objects, the manic achievements with an emptiness that take us flightily into the sky without a way to stay safe. So, as success unfolds, perhaps ask yourself can I feel steady as things go well? Is there peace and ease as I flourish? Is there calm and space between me and the wonders as they unfold, and do I have an anchor to ground me if I need it?

Speaker 1:

Make sure you keep a hold of your roots, regardless of the speed, so that you can be free to change course quickly and surely. So what is it? Stepping into your power? It's absolutely fine to not want to see the picture, to not want to face your power and take a tonne robin's like enthusiastic claim of your power. Your true power is only in this present moment. It is the choice that you make at this moment as to how you feel, to honour, own and be truthful with yourself and use your free will right in this moment to witness and hold all of these feelings fully.

Speaker 1:

This year, in 2023, I took another leap with my fear of deep water into freediving, where I literally had my face deep in water with only my breath.

The power of your breath is a gift in how you can expand yourself at every level, because it controls your nervous system and you can have a relationship of this control.

Speaker 1:

Through the many years of deepening my work with the breath being grounded and the nervous system, I have developed a course the power of your breath and, alongside it, ground your emotions.

With the power of the breath, you, too, can start to dive into those fears, perhaps without needing to jump into deep water.
